I’m due to have a colonoscopy on Wed, July 6. The directions say to stop taking coumadin 5 days before, but I’m confused as to which day I actually stop – do I take my last pill on Friday, July 1? To me, that would be 5 days off of it from the first day I don’t take a pill until the morning of the test, correct?

when i have to stop my coumadin it is five before but i would take last pill on thursday, stop taking it on friday. depending on how high a risk you are you need to be taking shots of a low molecular weight heparin to protect during this time you are off the coumadin. your inr should remain therapudic ( i cant spell) until monday, then a shot monday and tuesday, then shots starting day after your test and everday till your inr is back up. this is what i had to do anyhow. sometimes they decide you dont need the shots because your risk isnt that high so dont be alarmed if they say you need them ok.
