Hi Guys and Gals,
I am in need of your help. I have been diagnosed with IBS for a while now. I have mostly IBS-C. 2 weeks ago, I found a new product called Digestive Advantage for IBS. I began taking it. A week after taking it, I began to get nauseous. I didn't vomit, but was very nauseous. I assumed it might be the Disgestive advantage, and quit taking it. (I called the company and they said no one had ever complained about it making them sick.) I was still getting nauseous, and then began to throw up. I would eat dinner and throw up....breakfast, throw up. I've had some pain in my right side, but I figured that it was from being constipated, so I really didn't think anything about it. Yesterday I went to the doctor. He took blood and a urine sample. Nothing was wrong with my blood, he checked liver, pancreas, thyroid and everything was fine, except that I had a viral upper respiratory infection. Not sure entirely what that was, till I looked it up and it's a cold. I'm not sneezing, coughing, congested etc. Breathing is fine. I can drink liquids, eat soup, but nothing solid stays down. Anyone have any ideas? I'm totally lost and on top of all that, my husbands insurance company is driving me nuts, they say our insurance isn't active right now, because they somehow when they were changing over to another system....our group got dropped and terminated. I'm supposed to go tomorrow for an upper GI series, but can't now because I just found out today that we aren't active in their system. I don't know how much the test costs, but, I'm sure I can't afford it. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas why I might be vomiting food, but not the liquids.

Hi all,
I guess noone had any ideas. My doctor scheduled me for an Upper GI series this past Saturday at the hospital. I had to drink barium, and 2 other gross products that I'm still unsure what they are. I should get my results sometime this week. After some bloodwork on Thursday, my doctor seems to think that I have a gastro viral virus. I haven't thrown up since Saturday, from the gross stuff at the hospital. My question is anyone have this test done? And if so, did you have pain several days later from the barium moving through your intestines, cuz I'm barely able to move around from the pain in my lower abdomen.
Anyone???
A ;:)

Hi Aaranon,
It is a good thing you bumped your message up, as I hadn't seen it earlier.
Here is my theory, based on my personal understanding of IBS (through visualisation), on your first post:
It looks as if your gall bladder is acting up. If bile gets sent up to your stomach rather than into your intestines, you will tend to throw up. As for liquids - since they don't stay long in the stomach - they may actually cause less trouble. Being constipated indicates that there are problems with the quantity of bile your intestines are receiving - you could be on the low end.
As for what you could do about it - you might experiment with adding a quarter of a pill of bile salts to your meals (only with your meals) - this will have a couple of effects - you will feel a reduction in pain on your right hand side, in addition to preventing your gall bladder from having to spew out bile (in the wrong direction too), and you will reduce your constipation. - Break the bile salts pills into quarters using a pill splitter and swallow - don't chew. You may feel a bit naseous with the bile salts - but it may beat your problem.
See if this works and let me know.
For your second post: The stuff the doctors give you to make you clear your intestines is pretty rough to handle taste-wise and comfort wise for most if not all who take it. It can coat the intestines and make it very uncomfortable and maybe even have a lasting painful effect. So, I am theorizing that this a potential normal reaction to the "scopy" prep medications.
Cheers, Raju.

Hey all,
WELL, as it turns out, it wasn't my stomach after all. (Upper GI came back normal) I have a very bad Kidney/UTI infection. Did anyone know that a kidney infection can make you throw up? I obviously had forgotten this info...cuz my husband reminded me that I had one this bad when we lived in North Carolina...I was IV'd with antibiotics on that one, and I got sick(vomiting) and had a high fever.
As for the pains yesterday, It came from the barium working its way out of my system. Wow, what a relief it's over. (knock on wood)
Thanks 6th, for your responses....I will keep in mind all info on gall bladder....one never knows when this may rear its ugly head again.
