I wish it were that easy to have a solution in a pill. I have had chronic insomnia for 5 months now, haven't had one single night where I slept more than an hour at a time. I get maybe 4 very interupted hrs sleep on a good night. I've tried many different sleeping aids, with no solutions. I feel the despair when I'm up for hours each night. It is depressing and does cause anxiety.
I hope that someone here has some good advice that will work for you. Good luck. Just know that you are not alone in your sleeplessness.

Hi KayKay & Angelstar, I think everyone on the board has had that problem at one time or another. No easy answers, but make sure you guys are getting magnesium. I take the calcium w/magnesium at dinner. THat's supposed to help, plus you need the calcium anyway. You can try valerian or St. Johns Wort. Both helped me, but watch the St. John's wart cause you shouldn't add that if you use other things like antidepressants or sleeping aids. I know flight attendants who use Benadryl to sleep.
Kava Kava helped me and black cohosh, too. But there is some controversy over kava kava. Melatonin is supposed to help too. It takes awhile to get so you can sleep normally, but it doesn't last (the insomnia).
Getting some exersize during the day is good. Just take a walk...helps with stress too.
I'm sure others have suggestions, too.

I can't recommend herbal solutions, but I got a prescription for Sonata, this only requires 3-4 hrs of sleep so it is great to take at 2:00am. I only use it 2-3 times a wk, it has been great, I have so much more energy now!

Well, I am now taking Evening Primrose Oil (3 - 500 mg pills) and Magnesium and Calcium (3 - horse pills) each night just before bed and it is helping me sleep. The brand is NOW and I picked it up at the local health food store.

The results are not perfect, but they are much better and my night sweats and hot flashes have simmered down with this, so maybe that is the reason for the relief in being able to sleep, and even dream some.

Good luck to you. This menopause stuff is a big pain!

I have tried many herbal remidies. A good one is Chamomile - you can find it in capsule form - less time than making the tea. I am currently using Nature's Way "Silent Night". It contains vitamin C, calcium, hops, valerian, and skulcap.
It says to take 4 capsules but I only take one -two at the most. I believe it is also reasonably priced.
Hope this helps someone!
