shnswms 06-26-2005, 11:37 PM Hi Dooery,
Let me first say searching the internet for symptoms and diagnosing yourself or others is a bad idea. Most symptoms will bring up cancer on an internet search. My first thought was celiac disease. What brings you to believe she has myeloma? What was she given a bone marrow aspiration for? What have the changes been in the 3-4 years since then? I do know that recurrent upper respiratory infections are a symptom of myeloma but its also symptoms of other things. If her situation worsens I would find a specialist that would see her sooner. A hematologist would be the first place I would go. You may want to post this on the Blood Disorder section too. They may put her on iron supplements while they investigate the underlying cause. I do know that around 10 percent of 3-4 year olds are deficient in iron. In younger patients a poor diet is usually the cause, but you did mention she did not have a poor diet. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help but good luck to you and your daughter. Keep us updated. kitkat77 06-27-2005, 12:41 AM Sometimes infection can cause anemia.
Has she been checked for tonsillitis? That could account for both those test results, as well as the repeated upper respiratory infections, and fevers. Dooery 06-27-2005, 01:10 AM Thank you.
ryu1977 06-27-2005, 05:38 AM Myeloma never attacks people under 40 years old. Even the median age for this cancer is 76 years old in America. I am not a doctor but I think many benign antibody disorders are exist such as Monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS) or the others.
I think Iron deficiency is common condition and many people has this disorder. They could maintain their health by consuming iron supplement. I really wish your little girl could have good and healthy life. Dooery 06-27-2005, 12:14 PM Thanks for responding. Thanks for easing my mind about the myeloma.
I believe from what I read this morning that you are correct.. it rarely hits below the age of 40. We will figure it out! Thank you! |
