I just got a splint to bring my bottom jaw forward. I have been wearing it for just over a week 24/7, and now I am starting to get neck, shoulder, and back pain. I am also noticing that I am grinding down the "speed bumps" on the splint, so my jaw is not exactly staying put. I woke up last night to find my jaw way out of the proper position. Has anyone else had this trouble?

I intend to go back to the orthodontist, however I think he leaves for a 2 week vacation tomorrow....perfect timing of course. I wonder if this splint, in its current condition, is hurting me more than helping me.

Any advice or support would be appreciated :)

I think sometimes splints can make things worst for awhile. Someone must be covering for you doctor while he's away maybe. My doctor is moving my chin back and I am having strange sensations that I didn't have before too. Hope someone else chimes in here for you.

For a couple weeks after I started wearing my splint, I had really bad pain and swelling in my face and neck. I went back to my doc and he said to put heat on it and massage my TMJ with my fingers and drink warm fluids. He said my muscles were "spastic" from being so out of whack, but I did what he said and a week later I felt better than ever.

When I had my splint for the first time, I felt much pain in my lower teeth and I then called my DDS. He suggested I take it off until he adjust the splint. I did. The next week, after the adjustment, it fit much better. Hope this helps.

Best,
Wayne
