View Full Version : Lower readings than normal

My blood pressure has always been in the normal range 120/70 for the most part. In the past month or so, my readings have been lower than usual. Sometimes I get a reading of 105/57, 115/65, etc. My heart rate has been lower also. Usually it was around 70-80, now at times it can get as low as 57, usually more so at night. I also noticed that when I exert myself, like after house cleaning, mowing lawn, etc., my systolic pressure goes up to maybe 130-135, but my diastolic goes down to around 60. This has me very worried. I have recently lost about 20 pounds in the past couple of months due to stomach problems, and I have been under a lot of stress/anxiety lately because of different reasons. Is this something that I should be concerned about? It seems that everyone I talk to says that it's better that it's low than high.

Also, the doctor put me on 145mg of Tricor to lower my triglycerides and is keeping me on 40mg of Zocor for whatever reason, I don't know. I also take Xanax occasionally to combat the anxiety. However, my blood pressure fluctuates like this with or without the Xanax.

I do not get shortness of breath or anything, but when I'm stressed out, I feel like my throat is full and my mouth gets very dry and it seems hard for me to swallow.

Please help!

Lynn,

Your lower readings are nothing at all to be concerned about. Lower BP #s are only concerning if you get very lightheaded, dizzy or faint.

My average BP is around 113-120/68-70 but I often get readings like yours...104/65, and yesterday afternoon it was 98/62.
You're fine!

Zuzu you made my day. I have been totally concerned about this because it seemed out of the ordinary, with my anxiety, digestive problems and everything else, I got scared. I've read just about everything and they all say that as long as you don't experience dizzyness or fainting, it is not really a problem. You have eased my mind greatly.

Lynn,

I had to smile...(not that I'm making light of your anxiety and fear) but even your "out-of-the-ordinary" numbers are perfectly and beautifully consistent with being very healthy blood-pressure wise!

Glad you've calmed down a bit. Blood pressure is supposed to fluctuate...unless you're a cadaver!

That 20 pound loss might be the thing that has lowered your "normal" readings. That's a good thing, unless you get lightheaded, etc., or are malnourished and underweight. I lost 33 pounds and it lowered my bp only slightly, I'm really jealous you could get such a bp drop with a 20 pound weight loss.
