I felt compelled to share my story about my experience with Relafen. I am a very active 51 year old in good physical condition, moving like a young woman. About 8 weeks ago developed knee pain after gardening. I had been experiencing some minor knee pain when taking the stairs but not something that curtailed my activities at all. My knee pain extended to the muscle in back on my leg and caused me to limp. After a week of ice and Ibuprofin I felt some relief but decided to see an orthapedic doctor to get an x-ray and see what was wrong. The x-ray showed only a minor "irregularity" of the kneecap. The doctor put me on Ralafen, and physical therapy to recover the muscle in my leg that was lost in a short period of time. I did well, and enjoyed the pool exercises, and in about 2 weeks felt a reduction in pain. At about the 3 week mark, I noticed that after each exercise routine I was having muscle pain,,,,here there and everywhere. I attributed this to walking differently, moving differently, etc...gradually I became stiffer and stiffer, and was applying ice to the back of my legs because my muscles felt so bad. My knee was not hurting, but my whole body was having a muscle meltdown. Finally at about 6 weeks I started feeling pins and needles in my legs and had to rub them to get the circulation going.......and the last straw was when I went to wash my face at night the skin under my eyes was so thin it almost bled at rubbing with a wash cloth! I called the doctor the next day to tell him I was going off the Relafen, and to ask if I could take asprin the nex day. He said yes on the aspirin but did not believe my symptoms were attributed to the Realfen!....After searching for the side effects myself I discovered that sure enough, under "rare" side effects are weakness, pins and needles, thinning skin!....The doctor suggested I go see a physician about my muscle symptoms. I started on asprin 3 times a day and within 48 hours I was dramatically better. It has been 8 days now and I am like a new person!! The symptoms I had could have easily been missed because they happened gradually, and doctors do not seem to listen, or are reluctant to attribute symptoms to medicaton. I am sharing this because someone else might be helped. Marci
