I was wondering if anyone knows if the long term use of Premarin (surgically induced menopause) causes heart problems. I took this med to prevent heart disease and osteoporosis as I was young when I had this surgery. Now, I have heart disease. A female cardiolgist talked about the use of HRT years back and was agasinst taking this med long term but I listened to my GYN who said to keep taking it. It is such a hard decision to know what is safe these days.

Has anyone else suffered health effects from the usage of Hormone Replacemnt Therapy (not prempro)

Thanks

My mother in law has taken estrogen for 34 years, and doesn't have any heart problems other than high cholesterol. She was also told way back then that she could take it for the rest of her life. She still has menopause symptoms even at her age if she doesn't take it.

She said she takes it mainly for vanity because she said it prevents wrinkles. I don't know if that is common, but she looks at least 20 years younger than she is.

It's very confusing to keep up with the ever changing guidelines for medication, and treatments. One minute they are the miracle cure, and the next they are getting pulled off the market. It's so hard to know what to do sometimes.

HRT is supposed to help with preventing heart disease, but there so many other contributing factors for developing heart problems. A person's life style, family history, etc. have a lot to do with it too.

Thanks Sandi. I would love to continue on HRT but I am sure it would be vetoed now. My GYN has since retired and I have to shop for a new one. My Cardio is out to lunch on female issues so I am fending for myself at the moment. I thinks some of my symptoms...are all lack of estrogen related.

Thanks again.

I'm pretty much in the same boat with doctors. I need to get busy and find a good GYN. I'm personally going to try and not do the HRT thing....if I can. I have family history of strokes, and HRT increases that risk.

Best of luck to you.
