I have been chewing nicotine gum off and on now for about 2 years. When I got pregnant with my twin daughters I quit the gum, and then when they were about 2 months old I started up again. I felt really stressed out with the babies, so instead of picking up a cigarette, I bought some gum. I only chewed a couple of pieces a day until their first birthday (breast feeding) and then after that I started chewing more. I have been chewing about 15 pieces a day for the last 5 months. I really want to stop, but then I don't want to stop! I wonder if it is bad for my health. Thanks in advance for your input!!

Here Here mommaof twins!! My hubby and I both. Him 2 years and 3 months now, and, well me, I'm not sure, about 8 months, maybe. I quit 21 months ago, with patches. Was doing great, was down to the little patch, and sometimes didn't put one on till 3 or 4 PM. Then one day saw my dh's gum sitting on the kitchen counter and asked if I could have a piece. STUPIDIST thing I could've done, at the time. I've been hooked ever since!! Right now I chew about 6 to 8 pieces a day. If I have bad stress, it can be more. Am I worried about it? Not really..as long as I can afford it, and especially as long as I NEVER smoke again, which I haven't. I don't believe there are any health effects. I researched it online. My dentist says it could eventually give you TMJ. Well, I already have that mildly in my left jaw, which hasn't become any worse.
I think if we all tried hard enough, we could let it go...it's just that him and I aren't really worried about it.
Take care...
Deda :)

Yes, I am addicted to the nicotine replacement...not the gum but the lozenge. I had a problem with depression (maybe due to menopause) when I got off the lozenges and started using them again. I don't know of any health issues but they can be expensive. It's very easy to increase the amount you use, just like cigs. Like Deda, I am just extremely glad I'm not smoking. I have no desire to smoke ever again, I can't stand the smell or the health risks.
I think the addiction to the NRT's will be the next thing they address, LOL Again, as Deda said....it is possible to get off of them if you really want to.

Good Luck,
Cindy

...like maybe a patch of some sort, or a gum to get off the gum!!??!! ROTFLMAO!!!! Fun--nyy!! [Can we do anything with our own willpower anymore?] heh heh... I wonder what they would call it... Replacement therapy for NRT? (RTFNRT?!) heehee...wouldn't surprise me in a few years. But the main objective is to quit smoking, which we have done! That's all that matters to me now! (Would be nice though to see the prices come down tho, or a possible tax write off!) This is too funny Cindy! I'm really LOL right now girl! :jester:
Love, Deda :D
