Hi Everyone,

As many of you know, I had surgery yesterday. I had the three screws and plate removed from my foot. I kept the harware to add to my collection. I have the titanium joint that was removed when I had the fusion. I have to admit that I was surprised by the size of the plate. The plate was about 1 1/2 inches long. All of the screws were different lenghts ranging from about 1/2 inch to 1/4 inch. The screws looked like regular screws that one would buy from Home Depot.

The surgery went really well. The doctor was running really late so Robert and I actually watched a movie while we were waiting. I was scheduled for 12:30, but never went back until 2:00. I had an ankle block with heavy sedation. I do not remember a thing. I remember them giving me the oxygen tube and next thing I know I woke up crying. I told Robert that was better than the alternative, since last year I flipped him off when I woke up from anethesia. :) I came out of the anethesia much better than last year.

I am on crutches; however, I can walk on the surgery foot on my heel. I am not in a cast, but I am heavily bandaged. I am supossed to wear my CAM walker but we can't get it on. Robert is going to go get me more velcro so we can make the straps longer. Recovery should only be a couple of weeks, and then it will be time to start packing. I see the doctor on the 7th to get the banages changed, and then the stitches should come out the foloowing week.

The pain hasn't been too bad (yet). I think I still have the effects of the ankle block. I did wake up this morning in a decent amount of pain. Don't worry - I am no martyr and I am taking my pain pills. Even though I ate breakfast with my meds this morning, it was too much for my stomach. :( I did have some trouble sleeping last night. I was given sleeping pills, but I didn't take it. I thought that the pain pill would knock me out. Tonight I will be taking the sleeping pill.

I just wanted to say thank you for all the good wishes and prayers. It is nice to have a place to come to to share with people who understand what you are going through. Have a great day! I will be checking in often.

Jennie, glad to hear everything went well and you are hanging in there! A couple of weeks doesnt seem to bad after everything else, huh????? How are you feeling tonight? Is there much more pain now that the block has worn off or is it still not so bad? You know the drill, take it easy and keep us posted!

Hopefully this is your last surgery too! Glad to hear that things went well over all and you did not flip anyone off. Take it easy and as always give yourself some time to heal.

Take care! -eko

Dawn and Ellen - Thanks for the replies. The ankle block has worn off. The pain is not too bad. So far I have been able to control with the meds. I am being a good patient. Yesterday I read and slept most of the day. I am hoping to sit at the sewing machine today. I have a chair to sit on and a chair to prop my leg on.

Have a great day and I will keep you updated.

Dawn,
How is your ankle? Mine was doing fine. I wonder if I will have PT after this surgery. Speaking from experience, the screws are nothing compared to the fusion. It is actually cool to see what was in my foot.
