I’m just curious to know how many of you don’t take your meds when you are not working. What are you on, and what mgs?

Sylvia,
I do not take my meds on weekends. I see no reason too. Don't need a brain to mow the lawn.

Good question...
my ex thinks I need to give our dd her meds on the weekends and over the summer. I don't see why when she isn't trying to focus like she is in school.
He says it's because "she gets headaches and stomach aches when she goes back on the meds after long periods of time." Does that make any sense?! I understand concern over the side effects; but if that's the ONLY reason to give it to her?!

I'm new to ADD. been on meds for 3 weeks. I take my meds every day. They have made such a change in my life that I can't imagine not taking them. Why would you not take them every day? They have made my mind much quieter, I can concentrate on household tasks much easier. I will admit, I don't work outside the home. Would that make a difference?

Interesting responses. I just started taking Adderall and it has been great so far. My doc said take them everyday. His logic is that ADD doesn't just effect work habits, it effects the quality of your entire life. So far, I've been taking them for three days, and my weekend has been great. Instead of sitting on my butt, procrastinating, I've been active, and gotten a ton of stuff done around the house.

hi-
I take ritalin, up to 4x daily, depending on how long my day is.
I have spoken to a few people (including MDs) about this- there is no harm in taking a break- specifically for the stimulants. If it's something like welbutrin that builds up, that's another story.
I take breaks on days I don't have to study. right now that means i am taking no breaks and I miss my days off- it was a good way to see how i feel, and also see if i could stay on task without meds-- it was a good litmus test. I think it's a good way to see how much of our changes are behavior mod and how much is from meds- either way is fine, but it's good to know.
i sleep better off of it too...anway, good luck. and exercise, that really helps- carissa

one more thing- i keep track of how i feel both physically and emotionally (am I crashing at night...how is my irratability?) when I am taking it, so that when i talk to my MD, i have as much information as she will ask---
i also wonder about the immunity response i know some people experience- i think a break might help me not become too used to it and need to up my dose-- that's just my guess.
