Does anyone get this? I get this "lump" feeling in my throat every so often and it makes me nuts! It feels like I have to burp, but I can't, most times.

I have had tons of tests - complete blood work, abdominal and pelvic CT scans, endoscopic ultrasound, and all have shown nothing. I was on Pepcid and Zantac for a while, but they didn't help either.

I just bought one of those new testing kits - Menocheck- which is supposed to tell if your hormones are elevated. I have only tested once, but it was negative. I have so many symptoms discussed on here though!!!!!

Just when I am having a bunch of good days - WHAM! Bad ones come with a vengeance!!!!!

In my next life, I am coming back as a guy - no doubt about it! :D

This one prompted me to sign up and reply rather than being a "lurker"! ;-)
I had this same sensation along with my heart palpitations. My doctors couldn't figure out what was causing either of them. I now know both were part of the wonderful world of menopause! Thankfully, the feeling of having to burp along with the heart palpitations have almost completely disappeared although the night (and day!) sweats still rear their ugly heads...hang in there, you're not alone. Thanks goodness for message boards like this so we know we're not going crazy!

I've had that burp feeling too, along with my heart doing the flip flops. The two of them together caused a panic type feeling, and when I was finally able to produce an actual burp all the symptoms subsided.

I didn't know it was peri related at the time, but it was sure a weird experience.

It is so nice to hear others with similar symptoms. Everyone always talks about the hot flashes and mood swings, but it seems there is so much more! Thanks for putting my mind at ease. It almost makes that "lump in the throat" feeling disappear!!!! :bouncing:

Yes the life of menopause is wonderful! The lump in your throat could be one of several things, but I think the main thing is that you have had it all checked and no problems found. Try and forget about it - easier to say than do I know. I do know it can be stress that is causing it. Do you find when you are out with friends or chatting with family and enjoying yourself you don't think about it, or even notice it's presence? That's a sure sign it is possibly caused by stress.

I have had a lump feeling in my throat for a while now, which I thought was sinus, or post nasal drip, but turns out is in fact silent reflux. I've found by a process of elimination, that cheese has been the worst offender for me, or too much dairy product. I've also found that a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (Braggs which is imported here from the States) and a tsp of honey in warm water before breakfast really helps. I also take a tsp in water before my dinner, and if I stop taking it, back comes the lump and dry throat feeling. I do get the burps at times, and a lot of pain. I have a good burp and I come right.

Good luck with it and hope it soon subsides.

I got that feeling today, lol I do have reflex, and sometimes it can be silent. You don't have to have test results come back negative for reflex to have it, Im a genius in that one. Don't let that pressure in your throat scare you. IT will go away if you try to pay no attention to it. You won't choke to death, and it might not even be stress, might just be all muscular.

What is silent reflux and how is it diagnosed? I did have an endoscopic ultrasound (looking at my pancreas, etc). Would it have shown up on that?

Thanks for replying. I feel so relieved when I read these boards and see that I am not alone!

Do a search for silent reflux - my Dr who knows I'm a panic pants, so will do tests to let me see I am fine, listened to my symptoms and said 'Silent reflux' - lol i thought if she's so sure and not worried then I won't be either.

It is called silent cause you don't get terrible indigestion. I used to have the lump feeling, and also would clear my throat a lot as well. When I read about silent reflux that was me down to a tee!

I can't say about the edoscopy, not sure which route it takes!!!

Being relaxed helps a lot though, but start writing down what you eat and see if you can form a pattern as to what might be making it worse.

Good luck

Jude
