i am 19 years old and am about to start taking birth control for the first time. I have had a history with anorexia, but have been healthy for about 3 years, i was afraid of the possible side effects of weight gain, and depression. I really would not want weight gain to ruin all my progress and set me back into disordered eating. my OBGYN decided to start me on Mercette, has anyone taken it and had good experiences and low side effects? i am mostly concerned about the wieght gain and depression. im very nervus and would just like to know what to expect and if this sounds like a good decision for me to be on b.c. thanks.

I've never taken Mircette, so I can't comment on that. However, I've heard that its generic form, Kariva, is good as far as no weight gain or mood problems. But, of course, everyone is different and will react differently to a given pill. That probably wasn't what you wanted to hear, but it's true. :) It's all about trial and error. I completely understand the whole weight issue. I suffer from ED's as well (right now ana and I'm struggling). I'm on Ovcon-35. I gained like 7lbs. due to an increase in appetite. That, however, was short-lived (only a month or two, thank goodness!) and I was able to drop the lbs. by increasing my exercise. It depends on you really whether you want to be on the pill or not. I don't know your reason for going on it. But, like I said, everyone is different. One pill might work great for someone, and work horrible for someone else. Good luck!!

thanks for your input and advice. Everyone is deffinatly different, hopefully mircette works for me and if not i guess i wil just have to another. its a constant struggle with the ED, even though im a lot better my mind is still constantly overthinking food and excercise. Im going on the pill for me and boyfriend as the most effective form of B.C so i really hope that it works for me. I am anxious but also excited about the benefits and hoping that i wont experience the unwanted side effects, my biggest worry is that i would gain weight, freak out (stop the pill and relapse into my disordered eating) but im trying to take the right steps so that doesent happen. thanks for your advice and good luck on the road to recovery.
