Hello everyone,
i have been posting on lots of boards in the last six months to find out what is wrong with me. anyway blood results are finally throwing up more answers to help me. For a while my doc thought i had a pituatary tumor . But scan he got back from the neurologist did not show one up although no contrast was used. Anyhow i have a very elevated growth hormone and igf-1 result. they hit there peak and were tested at atime of day when they usually should be low. so im going for more tests to check this out. Ive had lots of chnges to my body/face in the last six months its freaky!! But seems to suggest acromegaly which is what you get when you have high growth hormone.
Anyway if it is confirmed that i do have excessive growth hormone then im hoping il have another mri of the particular area. However its even more worrying if nothing is found there and my gh is elevated. From the research i have done when they can't find a tumor there which is 99.9 percent benign then the excessive groth hormone can be secreted from a tumor elsewhere in the body. Tumors of the adrenaline glands lung pancreas have been associated with this. they can either secrete this themselves or secrete ghrh which makes the pituatry release more hormones.
Does anyone have experience of facial changes in association with cancer. Or had growth hormone/ igf-1 chnges because of cancer. i am seeing an andocrinologist tomorrow and have lots of questions i want to put to him
thanks z
