Is it true that the more often you bd with your hubby, the lower his sperm count is and it's harder to get pregnant? I've heard that you should only bd two times a week at most if you're trying to get pregnant. My husband says it's not true. Anyone know?

Thanks, Jen

it is not a proven fact that it lowers sperm count... if you are ttc, are you are ovulating i would bd atleast 2-4 days before you ovulate and then ATLEAST once a day through ovulation BUT i wouldnt do it more then twice a day... there really is no need to do it more then once or twice a day DURING OVULATION.

You CAN get pregnant if you bd only twice a week especially when those times are spot-on with your ovulation.... BUT, considering how toxic and inhospitible your tract can be to sperm, they can die very quickly. A common theory is to bd every second day around the time of ovulation. However, I was told by my fertility doctor that everyday is fine too... hard work, but fine. The key is the cm which allows the sperm to live for the longest possible time by protecting it within your tract.

What a science huh! Goodluck...

Best is to BD daily the 5 days before you ovulate. Fertile fluid is more friendly to sperm survival so absolutely on fertile fluid days. 2 days before ovulation is supposed to be the best for conception.

Low sperm count is every other day. I just read an article on it.

Jen,

This is from my experience...may not be true to everyone else. My BF and I were TTC for about 7 months with no luck. We BD EVERY DAY, sometimes twice a day and sometimes only 6 out of 7 days...but usually every single day. During the 7th month I discovered how to chart and started charting my temperature (not really checking my CM, just my temp) and we didn't BD as much...we did it like previous posters said...mostly just around ovulation. And that month, I got pregnant. So, I think there is some truth to it lowering your sperm count if you do it "too much," just because of my experience.

Hope this helps! Good Luck! ****Sending Baby Dust Your Way****

Thanks everybody. I appreciate all your advice. I think the best thing to do is to bd a day or two before, than maybe once the day I should be ovulating, and then maybe a day or two later. That way I can cover everything! Geez, this pregnancy thing is tricky! Thanks again!

My husband and I actually asked our specialist (reproductive endocrinologist) this question when we were trying to conceive. My doctor said that if you BD too often, it DOES in fact change not just the sperm count, but the sperms viability, so to speak. We were told to definately not BD everyday. He said that every few days is sufficient.

My Gyn told me the same as Barton93's specialist he said that it is better to bd every other night.

I would rather bd every other night and give my self a better chance than bd every night and reduce the chance - if you get my meaning, plus for us a rest is good otherwise it becomes more of a chore than something special :D

Good luck :)
