Hello........I just wrote about this and something happened to my post!
Let me say that I am a 57 year old female who has been suffering with major anxiety/panic for a couple of months now due to HEALTH ANXIETY! I just got a copy of my blood work and since my Doctor is out of country for another 2 weeks I'm terrified at one result.
My bilirubin came back at the very high end of normal (1.3)..parameters for this company is 0.2 to 1.3. My AST is 25 and my ALT 37.....I have been on statins for years now and I also read where vitamin B can up it too. I've been taking Vitamin B12 for a month now. I also read that it can signal something wrong with the bile ducts? I do have gassiness in that area, but no major pain. I could barely sleep last night.......
HOPING SOME ONE CAN HELP?????????

have you talked to your doctor? they will run a battery of tests and start eliminating disorders. i am sure they will run all the hep tests, then they will eliminate bile duct disorders like pbc and psc..... hang in with them, dont get overly anxious, even though that is hard. best of luck!

Direct Bilirubin normal value range is very narrow, therefore that is normal if you have slightly high value as long as you don't have jaundice.
Remember that the machine for health testing could have some bias as example when we count our blood pressure in the same time and same machine twice the results could be different.
I think ALT 37 is not so high.
Good luck

37 is not high for AST Normal levels AST: 5- to 40 or 45 ALT: 7 to 60 or 65
The "high end" of those numbers depends on which med spec your dr goes by. ryu1977 is right--bilirubin #'s are a big concern if you're jaundice--if not, I wouldn't be overly worried. Hang in there--try not to worry...did your doc read these results b/f he left the country?

Happy Elf.............no He Hasn't Seen Them. My Daughter And R.n., Called This Evening And She Said It Was Fine! If It Had Been Around 2 Or So..........that Would Be Another Story. I Still Plan On Calling The Dr. Who Is Covering For Him On Tuesday And Run The Numbers And Let Him Know That I've Been On A Statin Drug....i Swear, I Don't Know About These Drugs.....................it's A Catch 22 Situation Sometimes. I Don't Know If I Want To Remain On Them Or Not, But I Have Got To Exercise And Get My Numbers Down In Any Event. Thank You Soooooooooooooo Very Much For Responding!

You are welcome Nanax10, I think in your age with your ALT and AST score, I could say that you have very healthy liver. Many people younger than you have higher ALT dan AST score due to fatty liver or excessive alcohol intake.
Please keep your healthy live and release your anxiety.

As long as you're within the range you're fine. Also, the range in my report is 0.1 to 1.5.

Lucky you to have an RN inthe family!! Glad your daughter set your mind at ease--now you can breathe easier!! I know what you mean abt those statins--you're right--a real catch 22. Best we can do is educate ourselves b/f making decisions on them. Sounds like you're pretty good abt doing that. Excercise is always a good thing, and even tho I'm not the best at making a conscious effort to set aside time daily, I never park close to the store(-or anywhere else I go) Doing that alone, I noticed big changes all the way around. That time may not sound like much, but if you're do that at least once a day, it can add up. GLad we coul dhelp calm th efears...hang in there...Tues will come quick!! Gina

Thanks for your kind words. I may have a drink 3 or 4 times a year, so I guess that is why the level looks good! Can you tell from those tests if you hve a fatty liver or not? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm I thought you had to have a ultra sound for that?

Yes, they have to do ultrasound for diagnosing fatty liver, but they can see the signs from AST,ALT, and the other liver function test items.

YOU HAVE CALMED ME DOWN AND HAVE GIVEN ME SOME CONFIDENCE. IRONICALLY, I WAS IN THE E.R. ON SUNDAY WITH EXTENSIVE PALPITATIONS THAT LASTED FROM 7 AM UNTIL THE EVENING. I KNEW I HAD TO GO AND HAVE THEM CHECKED. FOR ME BEING SO PANICKED ABOUT EVERYTHING THESE DAYS (I BROKE MY TIBIA PLATEAU AND FIBIA LAST JUNE) WHICH SET A PATTERN IN MOTION OF FEAR OVER EVERY LITTLE ACHE AND PAIN IN MY BODY! I WAS IN THE ER FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS. THEY DID AN EKG, CHEST XRAY, BLOOD WORK AND THE DOCTOR SAID I HAVE BENIGN P.V.C.'S.......I JUST SAT THERE AND CRIED. I HAVEN'T HAD THE COURAGE TO START AN ANTIDPRESSANT, BUT I THINK I'M GOING TO. MY INTERNIST AS WELL AS THE ER DOCTOR SUGGESTED IT. ER DOC TOLD ME I HAVE A VERY STRONG HEART......YOU COULD HAVE FOOLED ME! THOSE ROTTEN P.V.C.'S ARE HORRENDOUS...LOTS OF PEOPLE WITH ANXIETY GET THEM AND OF COURSE I AM MENOPAUSAL! NOW I JUST WISH YOU COULD MAKE ME FEEL TONS BETTER ABOUT ALL OF THIS.....IF IT ISN'T THE LIVER TEST, IT'S THE..........................WHATEVER! THANKS IN ANY CASE!
