My daughter has stopped eating. For the past week or so, she will not eat and what she does eat she chews up and then spits back onto her plate. This is something new and I am worried. My husband and I have urged her and have tried to talk to her. She says that she is afraid that she is going to choke. I have tried to reassure her but she still wont eat.

Anyone else have this problem?

I haven't had that specific problem with my five-year old, but he is very picky about what he eats and lives on mostly junkfood, unfortunately. Also, it seems to me (from my limited experience), that five is a very scary age. My boy worries a lot about death, and he also got freaked out last week when he saw a little boy in a wheelchair. I wouldn't be at all surprised if my son developed a fear like that of your daughter.

I wouldn't worry too much. She's probably eating when you're not looking. I imagine she'll soon find something else to fear and resume swallowing her food!

Good luck.

Does she swollen glands or a sore throat?take a peek in there to check for any white patches or anything unusual. She could possibly have strep without a sore throat but it could cause swallowing issues. If this does not stop soon take her in to see her Ped for a check up.is she able to drink okay?FB

Aww, I feel so bad for her. I had the same problem as a child. I had gotten choked on a few things and it put a big fear in me that I would choke to death. I was about 9 yrs old I think. I recall hearing someone say something about an ambulance being at this restraunt because someone was choking to death and I really believe that put the fear in me.

So my Mom took me to the Doctor and they sent me for x-rays on my throat and stuff because I kept telling them I felt like I had something in my throat and felt like I would choke if I ate anything. The tests and x-rays all came back fine. So the doctor suggested I eat baby food, because there was no way I could choke on baby food and that baby without teeth can even eat it and not get choked. Now that I look back on it, it was all in my head, but it was very scary at the time because I was determined I would choke to death. I would try that so at least she is getting some food in her body or use a blender to chop foods up in so it's a lot like baby food. Also PediaSure(I think that's what it's called), it's like the Adult Ensure only it's for children would be a good way for her to get all the vitamins and stuff she needs.

Good Luck! I remember those days like it was yesterday and it was a very scary experience for me. Luckily I outgrew it overtime.
