I had read several websites about Leukemia treatment. I think there is a significant breakthrough last several years especially for the application of umbilical cord blood. The process is done by taking cord blood from newborn and save in the cord blood bank.

The recipient of the cord blood does not have to be 100% proper with the donor therefore this treatment is much more promising than bone marrow transplant. The cost also much much cheaper than BMT, around 25% of the BMT cost.

Singapore, Japan, and French had became leading countries for Leukemia and any other blood disorder treatment with this method, I really don't know why this treatment is not so famous in USA. Maybe because not many parents want to donor their newborn cord blood to the cord blood bank.

Definitely, there are risks for every treatment but if the patient has more option it could increase their opportunity to be cured.

Wish could be useful for all.
