Has anyone ever had their ears pinned because they stick out? I'm considering having this done and I'd really like some input. Thanks!

Hey Sweetypi-I know what you mean. The same problem has bothered me for a long time. I had an otoplasty procedure. I recommend seeing the best doctor you can find-preferably a facial plastic surgeon. Ask to see before and after pics-ask how many times he performed the otoplasty procedure. Make sure he understands the results YOUR looking for. See him in consultation more that once. Maybe if he has computer imaging to help explain to him what your looking for. See, I went to the first doctor I saw. I didn't look around for the best one-I was new to the game. So I made a rash decision going in. So, I am going for a revision otoplasty soon. I personally didn't get the results I wanted because I went to a doctor who I feel didn't have much experience or the right technique to achieve the results I wanted. So find the right doctor, if the end results will make you feel better about yourself than why not! It doesn't hurt much at all-and it is not long of a procedure. I hope it works out for both of us!

Thanks so much for the reply. It's nice to finally know that someone else is in my situation. My ears don't stick out REALLY bad. One of them sticks out more than the other and it is also a little taller than the other. My family thinks I'm crazy for even considering the surgery because they think my ears are fine. I know they stick out though and it's a major problem for me. I have NEVER been able to wear my hair back and I'm 27 years old. I always have to have long hair to cover them up and I'm fed up with it. Do you mind me asking what your procedure cost? I am not financially stable enough right now to have this done but I hope to some day. How long were you in pain? Can I also ask your age? The only reason I'm wondering your age is because they say that the pain is worse the older you are. Any extra info from you would help. Thanks again and good luck to you!!!

Hey Sweetypi, the average cost for the procedure is about $3500. Maybe you could get it financed. I'm 23 yrs old and I don't believe that the older you get the more it hurts. Ear cartilage is not as painful. You don't feel anything during the procedure and afterwards the only time you have to be careful is at night and how you sleep. Your ears will be numb for quite some time but you hardly notice and the feeling does come back. The only thing that might be annoying is that it doesn't hurt but it really feels itchy. This is because it is healing. You will have a bandage around your ears for maybe a couple of days or a week and then you only have to wear it at night when you sleep. In your specific case, they usually will operate on both ears even though one of them is bothering you. They will be set in a more natural position but they can't change the fact that one ear is higher or lower than the other. Are you susceptible to bad scarring? This is also something to find out about. Again, I can't stress enough the importance of finding the best doctor in your area-outside even. Get a consultation to get more informed-just because you have a consultation doesn't mean you have to go through w/ it. Remember, do what's best for you. If it makes you feel better than that's all that matters!

lentz have you had the second surgery?iam also thinking of having otoplasty how in gods name do you find the right doctor?who if i may ask did youre first surgery?iam in nepa and iam thinking of having becker in radnor do the surgery.ive also thought of having dr thorne in nyc do it.i just dont know whos the best at otoplasty or atleast one of the best. thanks ed
