A cautionary note about Thermage ThermaCool.
I realize the "reported" incidents of adverse reactions with this treatment are few....BUT....
I had this procedure about 5 weeks ago.
My doctor said there was "no risk". He told me there would be no down time, and that there was no bruising and no swelling from the procedure. (I still have his information sheet which says the same thing)
I had both to an EXTREME. I looked grotesque. My face blew up and I had major bruising on my neck and face, particularly from the inside corner of my eyes and down along my cheeks.
I had to hide out for 3 weeks and I am still having
problems.
Immediately after the procedure, I experienced severe pains in my neck and could see lumpy deposits under the skin in several areas. Over the next week, my glands swelled, further adding to my discomfort. I also had a small burn on my forehead.
My doctor's response has been outrageous and totally inappropriate.
When I questioned him about the lumps in my neck he claimed the lumps were there before the procedure.
I am still having problems!
If this could happen to me, it can happen to someone else. My doctor will obviously not be warning his patients, but I want to alert anyone interested in having this treatment.
I totally regret having undertaken this procedure. I now know there are worse things than aging.

I am so glad that you told this story. I am strongly considering the ThermaCool procedure, but now I will have to really think about it. How are you doing now?
Better I hope.
Better I hope.

ebgl,
I am so sorry to hear about your unfortunate procedure, and I hope things are much better soon...I appreciate you sharing your experience.
Your message said Thermage Therma Cool. I've understood them to be two different procedures. Thermage being radio frequency that tightens the skin (from collagen contraction/production underneath), and that Therma Cool was a laser and light energy procedure for the surface of the skin (texture, even coloring and fine lines). Can you clarify what you had done?
Again, I hope you're feeling better, and that you've seen MUCH improvement.
Thanks.

Really sorry to hear about your extreme Thermage complications. They need to find out why this is happening. Why some people have these reactions and others don't. I suppose time will tell since this is still a new procedure. Hopefully before the 6 months you will see some skin improvement so this wasn't all for nothing.

I just went for a consultation today and was disappointed that I didn't actually get to speak with the Dr., only the technician. I still have a lot of unanswered questions and after reading the messages on this board, I'm very nervous about having the procedure done. Does anyone have a reccommendation for a Dr. in the Atlanta area? Has anyone had an experience with Dr. Christine Glavey in Alpharetta, GA? I'm thinking of seeing her next.

Hi Everyone: This is my first message on the Healthboard. I hope I'm doing this right. I had Thermage done on January 16th. I had my whole face done and was suppose to have my neck done also but the machine ran out of time. It was quite painful and most of it was done at 15 and 16. I told the Doctor to keep at these numbers so I would get the best results. I ended up with one red spot on my temple which after a couple of days it peeled like a sunburn and is now gone. I don't see any change yet but it has only been a week.
I'll keep you all up to date.

Ok EVERYBODY!!!!!
I have read all the posts and the jury seems to be out. The proceedure has been called everything from a "slight improvement" to a hoax! I know that bad words spread so much faster than good ones, but it still seems to be not worth the money. (20 pages of posts) A very disproportionate amount of negative responses.
From what I can surmise, it is about $3,000, including the consultation to the follow up and redo visits. Catherinewood, how are you doing? Would you recommend it? (From her posts, she seems to be a level-headed, objective type girl) Was it worth it in your opinion?
I realize that the horror stories are what make the press, but I really do not see too many people relating to us that they has decent, albeit slight, improvement. Have you looked at your before and after pics? I am not looking to look 20 years younger, just for an improvement that would be worth the cost. Aren't most of us? One thing is constant: it really hurts! However, I could deal with the agony, if I felt like it would be of reasonable benift. I would be awefully disappointed to have no improvement whatsoever. So far, I do not see that in the posts! Those of you with good experiences, speak up!
One thing to consider: The machine costs like 1/3 of a million dollars for the doctor to purchase! I would hate to be stuck with a machine that costs that much and have a lot of unhappy patients. It is not beyond my imagination that many doctor's offices would continue to tout its benifits in an effort to recoup their loss. Buyer be ware!
I would love to hear that this proceedure actually works, sounds like a great idea; smooths out wrinkles, no downtime, etc. However, not to be negative, just real; how many people have had decent results??? Sounds like most people would be better off getting the micro demabrasion, and a slight chemical peel, like the "blue peel". Retin A, sounds like a much better alternative, even if the stuff were $1,000 per tube.

I also would be interested to know how you are now, and also clarify if it was thermacool or thermage, and are they the same or two different treatments??

Also I would be interested to know if thermage works on only the neck area to get away the vertical lines in center of neck....my face seems to be ok and actually 3 surgeons recommended against a lift but one recommended a neck lift, which if I could fix with this thermage, would rather do so. Also can anyone recommend a doctor in New York City that has had a lot of experience with this procedure?? Tks.

Please save your money! Had it done twice this past year and zero change! And, it hurts REALLY bad. Trust me.
