Both my mother and grandfather have extremely bad heel spurs. A few things that I have noticed that they have done are things like putting in-soles in your shoes...to soften the weight-bearing. Also, try shoes like Birkenstocks, and New Balance...they are specially designed for comfort for the individual.

Also, make sure your doctor knows what is causing it. A bone spur, is always a symptom of something else. Maybe it is arthritis, or scar tissue from an old injury? If so, they could treat you for the CAUSE, not the symptom...which would be completely useless.

Anyway, that's all the help I can offer. i hope you get to feeling better!

I really don't know of anything other then surgery that will make it better, but.... my husband has a heel spur and I bought him some Airwalk clogs (the rubber type, as in beach clogs) They are just like "Crocs" beach shoes. He says when he wears them he feels no pain. It might be worth a try even just for home use.

I had a heel spur years ago. The Doctor gave me a series of cortisone shots and I bought orthodics (sp?) at CVS and it eventually went away. Thank God ... it was extremely painful especially in the morning. It will occassionally flair up if I wear shoes lack good arch support. I have flat feet.

Thank you everyone for the advice..I've tried several support things in my shoes, but nothing is helping. I have bought several pairs of shoes that seem soft, but they aren't. I will try the ones suggested. Anyone have a tried and true support thing that works? The morning is terrible...any ideas to ease that pain?

Thanks again!

I was reading that someone else here recommended the Cortisone shots, and I remember that my mom got those and said they helped a lot as well. I would also back that idea!

Custom orthotics are what helped me. I had shots and bought every insert at stores that there are. These are great, expensive but well worth the money.

Before getting out of bed, stretch food back and forth, then put a belt on ball of foot and pull straight leg up as far as you can and hold. This will hurt, but over time you will be able to pull it further. This stretches the ligaments in lower leg/heel.

Put a pair of good support shoes beside bed and slip into them and don't go barefoot.

It takes months for heel spurs or plantar fasciitis to heal, may take a year or longer.

Rest is suggested as the best cure, but, who can stay off their feet all the time.

You may need to walk flat footed for a while until feet improve because each time the foot it stretched down it pulls on the heel spurs causing little tears.

I am currently trying to endure misery from planta fasciitis and it has been 3 months. Just now can walk flat footed, no normal rock of the feet.

Hang in there, take care of feet and they should improve in time.

I have read surgery is not always solve the problem. Cortisone shots are very painful and I am trying to avoid. Plus I am diabetic and cortisone would send my blood sugar way too high.
