Hi,
Dont really know where to put this, but this seemed the most relevant thread. Basically, recently, my jaw has been locking randomly. It doesnt hurt, just takes about 3-5 minutes to unlock. it usually locks around 2-3 times a day at either side. Anyone have the same problem? Anyone know what i can do to sort it out? Would appreciate any comments.

Hi Chris -
It sounds as if one (or both) of your discs are dislocating.
You should probably start with a visit to your dentist who should be able to direct you to someone with expertise in dealing with problems with the TMJ.
Look for conservative treatment - for example - a nightime splint or massage therapy.

Hi there thats how all my problems started around 4 yrs ago lock jaw as you decribe mine would maybe last for a couple of hours, i just did nothing about it now im in pain every day! go to a good dentist or oral surgeon

Mine does this every once in a while, my disk is dislocated backwards on rt. side. the worst thing to do is panic, I did this once and they had to give me valium. it unlocked after about 5 hours.

:confused: Can anyone give me explanations of what's going on with my jaw? Over the last couple of years my upper left jaw--between my cheeckbone and my ear--has been jamming into my ear area--now it's gotten to the point that my bite is off and I wake up with excruciating pain around my ear. My lower left jaw is way over developed compared to my right, and the bone behind my left upper molars is trying to break thru the gums--and I already had the wisdom tooth out.
My dentist doesn't know %&$, and the $400 niteguard he ordered for me just accentuates the mishapen left bite. I now can no longer wear it because of the pain. The nearest oral surgeon on my insurance is 4 hours away. I went to the neurologist and they took 17 films of my jaw but I have heard nothing from them. I feel like the left side of my face is growing and the right side is notrmal. My ear is getting bigger too. The docs just look at me like I'm crazy. I am in severe pain. I need some suggestions! Help!

what is locked jaw exactly? can u still talk, eat, open ur mouth? will u salivate?
