Now almost 4 weeks post Austin bunionectomy my foot seems to be more uncomfortable than it was last week. Last week I was able to carefully heel walk and not feel much of anything. This week I am more sore and feel more prickly/tingly sensations at my incision sites. I am icing and elevating again to try and help my foot feel like it did last week.
Not sure if this is normal? Am I doing too much or is this typical at this stage of the recovery?
I know, I need to call my doctor but honestly I trust your input and experiences over him right now!

MM-
Your foot is going through a lot right now, and every week it's going to feel different. Once you start rolling through it and working it more, it's going to swell more than it has before and hurt in places you never thought of. It's coming back to life and you have to let it go through all its stages.
This recovery can be a crazy thing; when you think you're getting better (and you are), it starts to hurt like hell after only a small amount of time. You have to do your exercises (ankle circles, towel scrunches, bending your toes, etc.) - if he hardly talks to you, I doubt your doc has prescribed physical therapy. Ask him.
I know it's a pain, but let him know that you do feel weird about asking him about your recovery and what to expect while you're healing. Once he hears that he alienates you when you deserve to be informed about your own foot, he may lighten up.

I'm at the same stage.. for me though I was pretty successful walking on it at 3 weeks.. but it would go in stages. I had the tingly thing too, but as I walked around on it more I found it has gone away. I think once you get to walking more then it will disappear. Now at 4 weeks I have had more discomfort. I think I may have been pushing myself too hard. I stayed home from work today so I wouldn't have to be on it much. I have my 4 week checkup tomorrow so we'll see how it's healing then I guess. I just wish this incision would heal! It was such a bummer watching people swim and go tubing on the 4th and I had to sit around and watch.. at least I got to go out on a boat for awhile.

I am so glad I found this site. I am 3 weeks today healing from a Austin bunionectomy. I had my stiches out last week and don't have another appt for 4 years. Until then I am suppose to listen to may foot on how much walking to do, wear the black boot, and do the toe bending. I don't know what's "normal" and when to check in with the doctor?

Nicky,
Are you kidding me that you dont have an appointment for 4 years??? I have never heard of such a thing. You need to be checked to make sure you are healing properly.Where are you from?

4 YEARS? And you just got your stitches out? I'm 6 weeks post-op, got my stitches out 3 weeks ago and go to the doctor EVERY week for post-op appointments. Hmmm.

I think she MUST mean 4 weeks??
MM, I think everything is normal... what I have learned is I was CLUELESS on just how long the foot can and will hurt, and how different it can feel from one day to another. My first foot (now 14 weeks post op) is really just starting to feel normal. The tightness is almost gone (except it is VERY stiff in the morning), and I can walk pretty good on it. The joint does hurt some and it will ache and swell a little after I have been on it for a few hours, but it feels a MILLION times better than it felt 4 weeks post op, or even 2 months post op. It gets better by the week. Hang in there, 4 weeks w/bone surgery is NOT a long time. :)

oops... I meant 4 weeks not years! Being so inactive I think my brain has slowed down as well. These weeks have felt like years. Before my surgery I was exercising 5 times a week for atleast 45 min. The past 3 weeks I have done my 20 minute pilates tape once per week.
