I was just curious as to how many of you have tinnitus from this and how many of you had it but it has gone away now?

Thanks,
Gloria

Hi Gloria,

I have tinnitus. It is like a humming or motor like sound and sometimes I get a high pitched ringing. When my ear feels real full it's really bad. It seems like it is on some sort of cycle. One day my ear has so much pressure or fullness and then the next day the pressure is not to bad. (I don't understand this and the Drs. can't explain it)

I have the constant dizzy feeling though. It's like I've been on a boat. It's not a true vertigo. I hate this feeling and the noise in my ear so much and when I stress over it it just gets worse.

How are you feeling? I hope you are doing better. I think about you a lot when I am crying about this wodering if you are doing any better. I just hope one day we can all get over this horrible thing and get on with our lives.

Thanks,
Jill

Hi Jill,

It is funny because when I am very upset and having one of my crying episodes I think about you too.

Things have been so/so. One day I'm a little upbeat and the next I am spending the day crying.

I use to have so much pressure and fullness in my ears and head but it has subsided some since January but very slowly. I think I just experience fullness in my ears now. Some days (like yours) is worse than others. I get a weird pulsating (not pulsating tinnitus like your heart beating) or buzzing feeling in my ears. Some times it is worse than other times. The headaches are still there but haven't been quite as severe.

I'm hopeless anymore. I feel like I am missing out on my son's life. The quality of life this has given everyone here just stinks.

I was hopeing that there were some individuals out there that had the tinnitus and can say it is gone now. I think from looking back on some of ALSme's posts, had tinnitus and it went away. I almost feel as if my tinnitus goes away the fullness and headaches and everything else will disapate.

Take care,
Gloria

Hi Gloria,
I did have tinnitus, in the first few months when all this started. I saw an acupuncturist and got some herbs and miraculously it went away. I'm not sure if the herbs really helped, or if it was the placebo effect, or if the tinnitus would have gone away on it's own, but it's gone now.

Mine sounded like a large truck was idling next to my head.

I'll try to find the name of the herbs she gave me, but it's been awhile. I posted about it sometime back in December, I think.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Thanks for letting me know yours went away. Every thing I read about tinnitus is not too promising.

Cori - mine kind of sounds like a truck idling in my head too or kind of like the leaves blowing on trees in the wind. I guess it could sound like anything you want it to. I will look back to see if I can find your posts on the herbs. In the meantime, if you could let me know what you used if you find it, I would appreciate it. I've been taking some herbs on and off to help build my immune system back up. I tried an accupuncturist, but after I left I had horrible head pain where he stuck one of the needles that lasted a few days and didn't want to go back to him. He also used that vibrating or pulsating machine and if caused pulsating in my head and ears again for a few days.

Xbombshell31x - Did your fullness feeling go away too?

Thanks to all of you who are helping me to recover from this by keeping me sane. I really appreciate every one who has responded to all my posts. I feel as if all of you are the only ones who understand.

Take care,
Gloria

Hi Cori - I found the herb. It is called Rehmannia Six Formula. I was wondering where you bought it at? I also found some of your posts on tinnitus and accupuncture. I did a search yesterday on tinnitus on this board but not much came up. When I looked through your posts, I found more information. I never thought to call around and ask them if they ever treated anyone for inner ear disorders; tinnitus specifically. (Good tip.)

Thanks for the help.

Hi There
Just prior to my BPPV attack last year I started with a tinnitis which was like my heart beat in my ear, but I couldn't get rid of it. It was really bad at night when it was quiet. I started taking Ginko Biloba which I still take to this day, don't know if that is what stopped it, but it seems to have stopped within two weeks of taking it. It is supposed to increase blood flow to the brain and ear...lots of info on the web about it.
Hope this helps

Thanks firechick. I tried the Ginko but it didn't do anything for me. Maybe I didn't give it a long enough chance (only about 1 month). I am however, glad to know it went away for you. The more people that tell me that the easier it is to believe mine may go too.

Thanks for your input.

hi Gloria,
That was the herb, I got it at my acupunturist's office. I try to buy herbs from her if I can because she has better ones than I can find anywhere else. That's the problem with herbs, since no one really regulates them you could be getting something bad.
It's weird that you had the electrode/vibrating needles at your last acupuncture visit, that seems like overkill. I hope that you find someone better if you chose to go the holistic route.
hope you're feeling better today,
Cori

I was lucky inthat my tinnitus was never bad but I did have it at that start of this (have had the dizziness 2 1/2 yrs now). It used to partiularly come on if I'd been to a noisy restaurant. I rarely have it now.

Hi xbobmbshell31x,

I never got a diagnosis like many others. I had lots of test done and it shows nothing. All I know is this nightmare started about 2 weeks after a really bad ear infection. I never really had vertigo, just a strange shaky feeling and sometimes a rocking sensation. It lasted about two months and disappeared with the severe nauseau. I had headache, lots of pressure in my head and ears, pulsating feeling in my head and ears and tinnitus. I also had a lot of mucas draining from somewhere for about 2 - 3 months but that has gone. I get this strange off feeling like lightheadedness or like I could pass out or I was drugged or something. I was never depressed in my entire life and I really hate waking up each day now. To be honest, I don't think I can handle this for years like some of the individuals on this board.

Anyway, thanks for your information. It helps the sanity knowing someone else who had this has recovered from some of the symptoms.

Take care,
Gloria

hi gloria2936
what specialists have you seen??You say about the pressure in your head.I had this too.I was diagnosed with MAV.Plus i had sinsitus witch i had an operation for in feb of this year.have you had your sinuses checked?

I also have nerve damage to my ear due to viruses. You really need to see the right people if you haven't already. Try and stay optimistic about this, you're not alone. We're all here to support you.

Take care

Hi xbombshell31X,

I've seen a 2 GP (1 hololistic), 2 ENT's and a neurologist. I've had several ear test, an MRI, CT Scan and bloodwork. Everything came back clear. There was mention of migraines, but the pain is constant (changing in severty) and the pressure is constant too; however not as severe as when it all started. No one saw any nerve damage, but what I've read is that it may not show up in an MRI. I never really had headaches before and then they started about 2 weeks after a severe ear infection. I was told by every doctor I saw that there are no more signs of infection. Also, my sinsus were all clear in both the MRI and CT Scan.

I feel like everyone dealing with this is so positive and I feel like I am falling apart. How can you be perfectly normal and fine one day and be like this the next? I use to scrapbook and now I hate looking at photos of myself because it only reminds me of the happiness I once had. I don't know how everyone does it. I'm seeing a therapist but don't think it is really helping. I don't want to take any drugs because I've had a lot of allergic reactions to drugs in the past and I'm afraid if I am bound to get better, it will delay any progress.

Does MAV go away like labs is suppose to? Do you constantly have headache or does it come and go? I did try a migraine medication but it made me really sick. How long was it before your pressure went away? How did yours all start? Was it after a virus or did it just suddenly come on?

Sometimes I feel so alone (besides all of you). I get so tired of hearing snap out of it or get on with your life. How can you when you feel this way all the time?

Thanks for letting me vent.
Gloria

hi gloria
we all need to vent,we are only human.I think thats what helps us all to cope.
I still get pressure in my cheeks and forehead now.For now i have to live with it.My headaches are there most days in one form or another.I have constant visual disturbances too and constant dizziness,The dizziness is the one thing i hate the most.
Its good that youve had an MRI and CT.It rules out the nasty stuff!!You need to get yourself a diagnosis.I would recomend that you see A neuro-otologist.This is a specialist that deals with ear and balance issues.Far better ENT.They will be able to tell you whether its to do solely with your ears or whether its mav.
from reading alot about migraines they can come in all shapes and forms. They cant see it on an MRI or CT.they diagnose it by ruling out the horrible stuff. They cant see nerve damage in your ear on a scan either.they can only diagnose that by certain tests that a neuro-otologists does.I know that some virues or infections can affect the ears for some time after the infection has cleared up.I really think you need to have your ears tested properly.
try not let people who tell you to snap out of it get to you. They have no idea what this is like.you deal with it the best way you know how.im always here if you want to vent.take care and i hope you go see a neuro-otologist.

Hi Gloria,

I had tinnitus for about 4 months which began at about week 6. I think it might have been more anxiety related than a direct result of the inner ear damage. But not certain. Anyway, it's gone and back to where it was before this happened. I already had some low-level noise from loud concerts and dance parties that I can only hear in dead silence. I never protected my ears back then unfortunately.

Best...Scott

Thanks Scott for the information.

You know, I think mine started about a month or so after this all started too. I still can't figure out why I'm still getting head pain or headaches whatever it is labled as. The headaches aren't as severe as before, but I wonder if it has to do with the tinnitus.

That is interesting about the anxiety. I wonder sometimes if I'm causing it all. I know that if it would go away the anixety and depression would too.

Thanks for letting me know yours went away; it helps me to stay sane about all this.

Take care,
Gloria

Hi xbombshell31x,

Thanks for the support. I am goign to look into the specialist you recommended. Thanks for the information on this. I find it hard to be MAV for me considering how it all started and I never had headaches before but I do agree that I need to at least have a recommendation as to what is going on. I read some of the other people on this board had headaches with their labs too, but for most it has gone away. I'm praying mine will too because they aren't as severe as the first few months they started.

I hate the dizziness too. I'm not really sure mine is dizziness though. I just feel strange and not with it. I don't have spinning or balance problems. The symptoms seem to be different each day. Did yours just start for you or did you have a virus or something before this all started for you.

Take care....I hope you have a dizzy free day.

hi gloria
mine all started all of a sudden about 9 weeks into my pregnancy.I kept waking up with headaches every morning for about a week, then the dizziness started. The headaches have improved alot since this all started. Not sure why.Maybe because i worried more about the headaches back then thinking they were something serious.I delveloped sinusitus about a month after the headaches started.I eventually had to terminate my pregnancy at 18 weeks as i was so ill back then i couldnt carry it.I kept being admitted to hospital for dehydration,as this dizziness made me feel so sick i couldnt eat or drink.I still havnt gotten over that because i havnt been able to mourn. They told me at the hospital that i must of had some kind of virus because i had a high temp for weeks before the headaches started. Not sure why the headaches started, the docs dont really know either. It has been a real struggle getting to see the right people. Before all this i used to just go along with what doctors said but now if i think the doctors wrong i will tell them.Thats how i got my sinuses diagnosed.
I really hope you go see an neuro-otolgist as thats the person who can really help you.
take care

xbombshell31x,

I am so sorry about your pregnancy. How devastating that must be for you. I had some headaches on and off with my pregnancy in the 1st trimester but I was told to lay down for awhile and I did and then they went away. I never had any dizziness or fever or anything. I know you can get them with the change in hormones during pregnancy. Mine fortuneately were noting like this and went away after a month or two of pregnancy and weren't all the time.

My headaches aren't as bad now either but it still stinks to have them every day no matter how bad they hurt or not.

I wonder if we had the same virus that caused this.

Take care,
Gloria

hi gloria,
Yes i wonder too.All they could tell me is that i,ve had some kind of virus. My headaches are now bearable, but your right it does stink having them nearly every day.I think i could cope with them if the dizziness wasnt there.Thats the part i hate the most as thats what brings the nausea on.Do your headaches change?i.e does the pain feel different.like the pain changes?hope your ok take care

Yes, my headaches are always different. Sometimes it is in my forehead, sometimes in my temples, sometimes and most of the time on top of my head. I use to get them in the back of my head too but that stopped. I feel like the pain always oringnates from my ears. The intensity of pain is always different. Sometimes they are bad and sometimes they are almost not there and feels more like maybe pressure. Actually, I feel as if I have a red brick sitting in my head between my ears.

I have no history of headaches and no one in my family does either. It all started after the ear infection/virus so that is why I think it is labs or VN. Did you have any type of tests done for MAV?

Take care,
Gloria

07-12-2005, 10:29 AM
hi gloria
I had ENG testing in the rotary chair. There are no tests for mav as far as i know, they diagnose it by ruling other things out.My Eng showed adnormal eye movements to the left eye. They diagnosed my MAV because i have visual disturbances as well as dizziness and headaches. But due to previous viruses that have affected my ears it has caused damage and for some reason my headaches are aggravating this!!!I had my first bout of labs when i was 18,then everytime i got flu or tonsilitus. But i would only feel dizzy for about 2-3 weeks. This time its lasted over a year!!It does sound like you have labs or vn but not sure why your getting the headaches.Hope your having not too bad a day.
take care

gloria2936
07-12-2005, 11:24 AM
That is interesting. So you would get headaches before all this started? When you had labs before did it take a long time to go away? What a nightmare for you.

I thought maybe stress was causing the headaches but I didn't have as much stress when it first started and the headaches and pressure in the ears is what came first. I think the stress I have now is becasue I don't feel well every day and it's been months and I am so afraid of not being myself again.

Take care,
Gloria

xbombshell31x
07-12-2005, 12:02 PM
hi gloria
when i had labs before it always went away after about 2-3 weeks.I have had labs about 3-4 since i was 18.The first time it took longer as i didnt know what it was so i think i made it worse by stressing. All of the times that i,ve had labs i only had slight headaches. All these bouts of labs were caused mostly by the flu virus.
stress can play a major role in this,But this is not usually the sole cause of your symptoms. These awful dizzy things cause us the stress.you are not alone in thinking that you will never be yourself again.I think most if not all of us think that, but we are all here to support each other because we know what each other is going through.
Take care and let me know if you get to see an neuro-otologist.I really hope you do.
xbombshell31x xx
