View Full Version : Hearing impairments anyone?

Hi everyone,

So my son (age 2) who has CP had a hearing screening yesterday. ."Just a formality" I thought.. "due diligence".. Well, sure enough.. the left ear comes back with 'less' hearing than the right.. The audiologist said he did have fluid in that ear (his tube jsut fell out and he keeps a runny nose) but not enough to account for the reduction on the test she thought.

His speech delays are almost all articulation issues due (we thought) to low tone in his mouth (he's a picky eater too).

So now I've got a new thing to worry about - joy!! :)

We haven't gotten the written results yet or talked to the ENT or any of that.. i just wonder how common a hearing loss is in people with CP and how severe? The audiologist said it was on hte border of normal hearing and impaired (I guess that's the term, my husband went, I didnt')

Anyway, any advice or info anyone has is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Laurie

Hi, Laurie. I'm 17 years old (just recently turned) and I also have hearing problems. I'm nearly completely deaf in my left ear and i have some trouble with some tone levels. But I'm not sure if it's due to the cerebral palsy or not. I do know my eyesight is impaired because of the oxygen i was on as a baby due to the cerebral palsy has done a considerable amount of damage on my sight, but as for hearing, I too have an impairment, i'm just not sure if it's due to the cerebral palsy or not.

Hope I was of help,

James

Thanks James, that does help. Do you know how young you were when they determined there was hearing loss? Also, do you know if its middle ear/eustachian tube issues or inner ear/cochlear (sp?) issues? I am still sifting through this 'raw' data they gave me from teh screening.

Happy Birthday btw!
Laurie

I'm sorry it took me so long to reply, family difficulties, and I'm not sure what it is :S

just that there is no way they can fix it

I was in 4th grade or so when they found out
