My 9 year old son was diagnosed with brain cancer last feb. operated had radiation and recd chemo also. This feb his MRI showed recurrence of his cancer at multiple places in brain. Since then his condition has deteriorated very fast. He is not speaking for last 15 days, he left taking orally since last week and NG tube has been inserted for feeding. He is almost unconscious. I dont know what to do, where to go. As a mother I feel so helpless and depressed that I can not do anything for him. Any kind of help for him???

Nonu -- I'm so sorry abt your son--you and your son are in my prayers. Do you have any family? It your son at home w/nursing care or in the hospital? Have you thought abt home nursing care-hospice? They are wonderful during times such as this. They can provide him with the care he needs to remain comfortable and will help you and your family with any support you need. Please check into them if you haven't already. Talk to your son's dr and express what you've said here. When cancer hits-it hits the whole family...the dr should be able to guide you also. I'm a mother of young children too-and when we can't take their burden-it's very hard to deal with. We want to take the pain and suffering and do it for them...we feel very helpless. Please talk to his or your doctor--share this with him.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. Stay as strong as you can. Gina

nonu,
I am another mother going through the same thing. My 18 year old son was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma (a very aggressive childhood cancer) Feb 2004. After some short remissions he quit chemo in Dec 2004. In Feb 2005 his cancer relapsed. The doctors don't give us any hope. It is so frustrating to not be able to do anything to stop this. I feel so helpless and sad. We have prayed so hard and I have asked many people to pray for him. It seems like the only thing we can do. This has been the hardest year of my life--you don't ever expect something like this to happen. I will be praying for you and your dear son.

Dear friends thank u v much for giving the support. My son is also suffering the same type of cancer prayingmom's son has. It is said to be a very rare and aggressive typr of tumor. The time period is also same. Feb 04 to Feb 05. Is your son on some chemo or trial medicenes. Drs have suggested trial medicenes for my son but at the same time they dont give any hope . I am afraid that he receives only the severe and painful side effects of chemo in place of any improvement. I am trying to contact the drs as advised by you for hospice care. He has developed chest infection also. My love and prayers for u all.

Dear nonu-
How are things going? Any better for you? How is your son? Please remember to TRY and take care of yourself during this time... I know this is hard when you want to focus on only your son, but you need to stay healthy for him and the rest of your family. I am praying for you and your family. Post when you can.

Life is not the same as it was. It is so tough and painful now without him. I have moved to death and dying thread.
