hello everyone..I have a question..I have been tapering off of 30-35mgs (taken in one dose at dinner time) ..I dropped 5 mgs for the first 3 nights and last night I dropped another 5 mgs down to 20 mgs as my nightly total dose...is it possible for me to be having such nausea as a w/d symptom? I am a very active person, swimming, gym etc...and have no other symptoms...but man ...I am NAUSEOUS!!!!!! any info would be greatly appreciated...also..I am in awe of you guys for going cold turkey!!! I read the posts and always send my prayers and positive thoughts to all of you..take care....

Hi Kev,

You don't really say 30-35mgs of what....so it is kinda hard to say...It really depends what and how much for how long you are taking... If you can give more info, I'm sure you will find all the help you need here. I for one will try my best.. As far as nausea, that is one wd symptom that I have been very lucky with. There have been times, when my sinuses were draining down the back of my throat so badly, it would make my gag reflex kick in... But, at least for me, nausea wasn't the biggest problem anyway.....

geez...I'm sorry..I am tapering off of norco's...I am starting to think its the norco's that may be causing the nausea...not the w/d!!!! thanks for getting back to me...kev

Kev,

So, you were taking your dose all at once? For how long? And at what dosage all along? Did it increase over time? I do know norco will make you sick if you aren't used to them.... but if you were able to take the original mgs and not be sick, I doubt having cut back, that it is the norco...I guess maybe I'm making no sense here.... Maybe someone else has a clearer thought on what you are asking, but I will continue to try to help you if I can...

Hey Kev,

Yep that's withdrawal my friend. 10mg taper over four days is a lot at that level. Whether physical or mental, coming down is hard, but worth it. The reason your stomach is acting up is because it is used having more opiates in it. Try a little immodium and I bet that helps some.

Keep at it!

Kev,

Just be careful with the immodium( and name brand works best for some reason).... a dr. once told me, I now have my doubts as to the truth in it...since he is the one who Kicked me to the curb yesterday, that "Immodium is just demeral(sp?) turned backwards" I do think I recall someone else here saying something to that effect too, now that I think about it..... and I have read..somewhere once upon a time, that it is possible to take too much... Not sure what happens when you take too much, but I'm sure I don't want to find out...can't be good!!! Just thought I should share that tidbit.. :)

But Large is right, it should definitely help you. I just wonder why that is the only symptom you are feeling, and none of the "RLS" or everything else that usually goes with this... maybe the low dose you were on....would be my guess....

Imodium is demerol backwards? Loperamide, (the active ingredient) is a derivative of demerol but I never heard phrased as backward before. The thing is it doesn't cross the blood/brain border to make you high. It does have similiar properties to narcs, just not abusable way. Some people swear by it, others swear it made things worse, just stay on label!

Like I said, given my source  I don't know how much truth there is to that theory. But I would imagine, that if it is true, it is the "backward" part that makes it not satisfy an opiate....need...desire...whatever...I really have no idea...just something that popped in my head. And as I am often guilty of, I probably spoke my thought outloud before I realized it...and since this keyboard has been nearly my sole source of communication.....well there ya go..... Joan

Large,

This may be a good time to get out "that grain of salt"... :)

Kev,

That was my dose too...did it for 5-6 years...maybe longer. I tapered a bit slower than that, but def. had the GI issues. Keep working out..no matter how crappy you feel...it totally helped me.

Good luck and don't look back...ie NEVER take a higher dose than you are at right now. You'll make it.

wow...thanks for the replies!! I appreciate it...I really dont have any other w/d symptoms..of course I work out majorly 3-4 days a week..running.,swimming, weights...I guess that keeps the restless legs etc. away....I do feel a little fatigued however. I didnt think a taper of 10 mgs over 4 days was too much..I guess because I was taking my dose all at once...not spread out during the day...anyways...I will continue to taper...maybe 5 mgs. every 5-6 days....but I guess I have another question now ....when you finally get down to no mgs. at all....do the w/d symptoms pop up more ??? or are they what you are experiencing during the taper process?? you guys are awesome..take care

Kev,

Ya know, I really have no idea how the taper thing plays out..I faild miserablly every time I tried that. But, from what I have heard, is it will definitely cut some of the symptoms, I think you will feel some. So probably what you allow yourself to feel during your taper, probably affects how you feel and how long it lasts, once you are down. I have also had people tell me, that they managed to taper all the way down, and never feel the first wd symptom... again, I really have no experience here....just felt the need to respond.. I'm sure someone else with more knowledge than I will come along and fill you in though.... Joan

Kevbo,

For me, it was a relief to be done. I kept waiting for the hammer to drop but it never did...after a few days, I figured it was over. After 4-5 days, I felt better than I had in the 3-4 weeks of the taper. The first several drops...I didn't even notice...I started feeling lousy at about 15mg...or 50% of my daily unrecommended dose.

oh so for you being off of the drugs completely felt better then while you were tapering? I hope that will be true for me. I do not have major w/d symptoms but the nausea is killing me...thanks

that was true for me, but I suffered for 4-5 weeks before I got off...cramps, no sleep, low grade 101 fever, moody as heck...on and on and on. Nauseau would suck...I had some but not debilitating. I hope it changes into something else for you...but if not, the you will simply have to suck it up and wait it out or kick the **** to the curb and get it over with. Eitherway is totally winnable.

I dropped 2.5 mg/day and stayed there for 4 days...so 40 days total...thereabouts. The last drop from 2.5mg to 0 was totally anticlimatic. Birds weren't singing, but the heebie jeebies didn't drag me under the couch either.
