Hi! Can anyone tell me if they're child has experienced a very nasally quality to their voice after having their tonsils and adenoids removed? My 6 year old son had a T & A a couple of days ago and his voice now sounds really crazy. Like really nasally, whiny and high pitched. Also, he has complained about liquid going up into his nose when he drank it. That has happened a couple of times. Has anyone else's child experienced this and did it resolve on it's own? Thanks to anyone who has some imput on this!

Hello, my son had his tonsils out about 3 years ago, he was 9. He did have a change in his voice for a few weeks. It sounded exactly like you described. It did go away after his stitches dissolved and the swelling went down. I don't know about the liquids though. He never complained about that. Good luck!

HI
I can remember when my son had his tonsil's out, his voice got higher for about a week or so, he sounded like Michael jackson, but eventually it went pretty much back to normal. Your son my sound nasely because there is swelling, which will go down in time.

Thanks so much Karen and Cristie for your responses! It makes me feel better to know that your children had similar experiences. My son does sound a little better, but not back to normal quite yet. I've heard it can take up to a month! (a nurse told me that) Thanks again!

Hi. Hopefully by now the problem will have righted itself, but I just wanted to say that I remember having my tonsils out at the age of 7, and having a high squeaky voice for a while afterwards. My older brothers made fun of me for years after!

I'm late with post but my 7 yr old GD is going thru the same thing. She thinks it's funny that liquid is coming her nose. I'm having trouble understanding what she says when she talks she sound really weird.
Hope everything is well with your son by now.

Hello. I remember getting my tonsils out and really once you start to drink fluids again, you have to learn how to swallow! Its no big deal, different muscles are now getting liquids and solids down your son's throat, so it will feel different to swallow. God Bless :)

Hi:
My six year old daughter had her tonsils and adenoids out 8/4/05. She too sounds nasel, whiny and I can barely understand/hear her. She thinks its pretty cool. It was freaking me out until I read your posts. Thanks.
