My granddaughter sho is 15 received an inner ear Sconcussion and a week latter had a head concussion. They say nothing perminant happened but I am so worried about the inner ear.
she i s an avid athelete and is hoping to get back to it next spring.
Does anyone have any encourageing information or suggeation for her. I'm not sure of all the terms but she is going to a physical therapist who is trained for helping balance. She seems to be doing ok while sitting but has some trouble when walking. It has been 1 week ago this happened. Thanks for any help.

Firstly, if they know it is not permanent and have referred her for physical therapy already - all I can say is - wow! In the Uk it can take months to find this sort of info out.

It is actually difficult to say if an inner ear problem is permanent or not...the real test is to wait and see BUT even if it is permanent - which is not uncommon - it doesnt mean the symptoms are so. The inner ear rarely repairs itself. Instead, it is brain compensation which gets you better. Hence the VRT therapy she is due to have. In order to achieve brain compensation, the patient must stay as active as possible and avoid vestibular suppresant medication given by many GP's. It has only been 1 week and seeing as she is getting the help already and is of a young age - the odds are she will be fine within a few weeks. Keep us updated xxx

thanks for your comments. I guess we will know more after some therapy. I have had inner ear problems myself and just don't want to have my wonderful granddaughter have any problems like that.

Know how you feel as I know only too well how awful inner ear stuff can be. Hope she improves soon xxx
