Has anyone had any problems with this or know anything about it? I think my DS might have it. I noticed some white stuff in his mouth and tried to wipe it off but it doesn't come off. I don't have any insurance at the moment so I need to know if it will pass or is it urgent that I get him to see the doc?

My dd had this when she was a few weeks old. Im not sure but I think it will pass on its own in about 2 weeks if you keep it clean (we had medicine for it). Make sure you wipe out his mouth a few times a day with a clean rag. Make sure your hands are clean and that nipples and binkies are boiled in water and that you fingers dont touch them. If you are breast feeding then you can use monistat on your nipples to kill any yeast there and just clean it off before you feed. If it starts spreading then you may need to take him in anyway it can be dangerous if it gets too bad.

It's not an emergency but it's very uncomfortable. You should go in or maybe the dr can call you in some nystatin. It's not that expensive and he should only be on it 10-14 days.W/o treatment it can take a very long time to clear up and they can get open sores inside their mouth.

Thrush is basically a yeast infection and if you are nursing can be passed to you and be very painful.

It will most likely NOT go away on it's own. Shell out the cash and get the medicine. The thrush can move it's way through their mouth and down their throat and make it very painful for them, especially when eating. And like the others said. Boil any feeding items and if you're nursing put some Nystatin cream on your nipples. If it get into those you will be in pain. It happened to me with both of my babies. Not fun.

Thanks for the replies!

I ended up taking him in to see the doc and it turned out to be nothing at all. :)
