my DS is six months old and is still not sitting without support. any suggestions?

My DD was almost 9mo before she sat without support.

My son is just about 7 months now and he still can't sit on his own yet either. My dd was sitting on her own about 5 months.She wasn't as rolie polie as my son though, so I was thinking that maybe he is just too top heavy? I don't know, just a theory really.I certainly wouldn't worry about it though until after 9 months. Most babies sit up unsupported between ages 6-6 1/2 months to as late as 9 months. The only thing I can think of suggesting is to prop your baby up as much as you can to get the practice of sitting up. That will allow the right muscles to develop as well. Thats about all though. Babies take their time and will do things when they are good and ready.So hang in there, nothing to worry about yet. By the way, do you have the book :what to expect in the first year? It is very informative about what skills your baby should be doing; what they might be doing; and what they could possibly be doing. If you don't own it, its a great book to have. I have all three books. What to expect when your expecting, and what to expect in the toddler years. I still make refrences to it at times.

My DS did not sit until 6.5 months. One day we went to a park that had sand. I sat him in a scooped out area and put sand around his bumm. That gave him the extra support and confidence. Ever since that moment he could sit on his own. We tried that day at home on the hardwood floor and he sat on his own.

A lot of babies are not sitting without support by six months so I would try not to worry. Our first was eight months, our second was eight and a half months and our third was seven months.

Gabby is 6 months today :) ANd she's only sitting for short amounts of time ( like 1 min) before toppling over lol... can't wait till she can though cause she does not want to lay down anymore!

My DS is 6 months old this week as well and still not sitting without support either... He is getting there though... Makes it like 20 seconds or so before tipping backwards... He just gets soooo excited and throws himself backwards!! Its kind of cute!
