View Full Version : Sharp Throbbing Pain

I was wondering if I could get any opinions or advice about this: I frequently and randomly get sharp throbbing pain in my femur (between hip and knee) shooting straight down. i can tell it is not in the tissue or muscle but deep in the center, and though i'm not a doctor, my best, logical, educated guess is it is my femur. i feel like if i could just squeeze my leg hard enough like really deep tissue massage it would quit but it doesn't.

sometimes my hip hurts too, but usually not. yesterday my knee joint was hurting enough that i had trouble falling asleep and the pain sometimes shot down my shin to my ankle.

this used to happen only once a month and accompany menstrual cramps, so i assumed it was just associated with PMS. but three months ago it started happening a week and a half later and has happened frequently and randomly ever since.

has anyone else experienced this? any recommendations on what kind of doctor i should see or what kind of tests i should ask for/be aware of ?

Hi! You are describing my initial pains.
Please see an orthopedic doctor for xrays.
Let us know what they reveal and then there should be someone here that can offer advise.
