View Full Version : Swolen gland?

I wasn't sure where to put this so I just put it here.

About two or so months ago I discovered a small lump about the size of a pimple, a little bit smaller than a mosquito bite, on the back of my neck. I knew it wasn't either of these because it was under my skin; you couldn't actually see it by looking at the back of my neck, you could only notice it if you rubbed it. If I pinched it between my fingers and sort of rolled it between them, it felt as if there was a string extending from the bottom of it going into my neck.

I complained about it to several people and a few of them said it was just a gland. My sister says that she has a bunch on her neck, and her boyfriend has huge swolen glands on the back of his neck, so I figured I didn't have anything to worry about. However, recently it's gotten a lot bigger and almost developed some pimple attributes. It's protruding slightly from my neck, and it didn't hurt when I touched it before, but now it hurts a little bit.

Am I getting all worked up over nothing? I'm thinking it's just your average swolen gland, but I've never had one before so I have no idea. I HAVE been prodding the stupid thing quite a bit, so maybe that's why it started swelling.

It could be a swollen or inflammed node, cyst or something else.. you should go to the doc and have him/her check it out.

It is probably just a swollen gland, calcium deposit, or a mass growing on a muscle. More than likely, nothing to worry about. Definitely go see the Dr though. It will put your mind at ease. I have a small lump on the right side of my neck. I had a CT scan last Thursday and got the results yesterday. Nothing abnormal showed up, yeah! I know....it's nerve wracking though. Do you have health insurance...if so, just go see the doc. :)

When I woke up this morning it was less swolen than it was last night. Probably 'cause I was poking it so much yesterday.. But that kind of makes me feel better, 'cause I think if it was something serious like lymphoma (which I know is very unlikely, but I always tend to assume the absolute worst), it would have gotten worse instead of better.

I'm going to the doctor tomorrow, though.

Oh, great! I'm so glad you are going to the Dr! Best of luck and don't worry! I know easier said than done..... I worry about anything and everything possible! Will you post a reply as to what you find out?? I'll be thinking of you!

Due to a strange turn of events I ended up going today. He says it's something called an epithelial cyst, which is harmless. I could get it surgically removed, but there isn't really any need.

Woohoo. :P
