View Full Version : Boney lumps in ankle and foot

My ankles have always been dodgy, as every time I ran, they went over, since I was in the 2nd year of high school, then eventually I started getting aches right through my body, it was like bone and muscle pains, within a year, my hips started to be painful, so I was put on Amitriptyline and painkillers, the body pains have never affected me since.

Now I have had a boney lump on the inside of my left foot, just after the joint, for about 3 years, the doctor did send me for x-rays, but nothing was found, then in late October last year, a lymph node in the left of my neck came up, the doctor sent me for an ultrasound, again they found nothing, and now I have discovered a boney lump in the inside of my right ankle, just above the joint, I feel like I'll be wasting my time, and my doctors time, if I go back with this new problem, should I be worried? I feel like a hypochondriac at 32 years old. Is it Pagets disease, as my grandmother, and my mum has it?

It sounds like you would benefit from seeing your mother's doctor - possibly an orthopedic specialist. If your current doctor is not familiar with Paget's (not saying you have it), but at least to be doing the right testing for you. Also a PCP or GP is just not as knowledgeable as an orthopedic when it comes to bone questions. There is a lot of good information available for Paget's patients should that be your diagnosis.
Post back and let me know what happens.

I found out that I may have a thyroid problem, it does affect joints, so that explains the boney swellings and aches. I will be having more tests soon, just to see if the thyroid count is low again, but I have to wait until February, unless my symptoms get worse.

bluesuew,
Hey - check out the thyroid board for more info.
I also have thyroid issues and just had to wait to find the right doc to get me back to normal.
Is your doc making you wait until Feb or is it your own schedule that is delaying testing?
Once your thyroid is out of whack - it won't get back on track without medication. Your symptoms (from low thyroid) will continue or worsen until this is addressed.
In your next set of bloodwork for thyroid - make sure they check your FreeT3 and your FreeT4 as well as your TPO (thyroid antibodies). They will then know for sure if your thyroid is in trouble.
Without proper thyroid levels in your body, you will feel tired, cold, gain weight, have female problems, and lose your hair. These were my worst symptoms that went away after getting on thyroid supplementation.
Wishing you all the best!!!
