View Full Version : Dealing with osteoarthritis?

Hello,
I am suffering from rather severe osteoarthritis in both my hips due to partial hip replacements. I was hoping to get full hip replacements done on both legs done this summer but due to time constraints I was only able to get one done and will probably have to wait another year before I can have the other one.

I guess I was wondering if there is any way of dealing with the pain in the mean time? I can barely walk more then 10 minutes or so before I get excruciating pain, and at my age(22) it is rather depressing. I have tried Celebrex, and take Vicodin regularly but neither of these seem to help at all and I dont know what else to do. I realize that some pain is unavoidable, but I would give anything to be able to walk normally.
Thanks :)

Hello
I feel for you..I have severe OA in both knees and lower back..
After time any and all meds are less affevtive.
My Doctor told me to use a heating pad and ice alternating. No more than 20 min. Several times a day. I don't know if this will help but you might try it.

Greetings. I would recommend that you scroll down and click on the hip/knee replacement board. There are some great threads and much info. Join us there with any questions you might have. We are a great group of 'hippie hipsters" and are always pleased to welcome newcomers. The thread "six months after hip replacement" started the whole board several months ago and we have been going strong ever since. Also check out the "Introduction" thread for histories about some of us. Hope to see you there..balleteach
