View Full Version : Adenomyosis & Leiomyoma?

This is what my ultrasound report reads. Something overheard about them talking about the adeno thing - "the uterus is growing into the abdom. muscle" or vice versa - can't remember? I know the Leio thing is fibroids - i have 3. Doc says it's nothing to worry about - I could treat with the pill or face surgery.
Doctor said we needed to schedule an appointment later to discuss hysterectomy surgery.
Can anyone explain this to me further? Is this why I am bloated, cramping pains, and having a 14 day cycle this last month?
Also curious if I have a hyster. - should I have everything removed including the ovaries?
THANKS for any advice/info.

First, how old are you? Yes, the ultrasound report and the dx of adeno and fibroids could certainly be causing some of the painful periods and bloating etc. Adeno is usually dx via surgery. If you consider a hyst...and from what I know, it's the only way to really deal with the pain of adeno..there are plenty of ways and types of hysterectomys. It's not a simple surgery though. Even the lap assisted procedures require a careful recovery. No endo? If so, unless they take the ovaries as well, that problem will remain. If the suffering is worse than the risks of surgery, than you might find that life is great after a hyst. If you are close to menapause, it might be worth waiting for. I had a total hysterectomy with everything yanked..:).. it took the full 3 months to really feel like I was going to recover..(I had cancer of the uterus)..no choice about having the surgery or not having it. In a way, it made that decision easy. It took a full year to really get over it all..I am very glad to know I've got nothing in there to cause me problems..no periods, no cramps, no more stuff to deal with. Think it through and talk with your doctor about other less invasive or drastic solutions. There is alot that is out there...good luck.

THANKS Josie for your reply - it sure helps to see the advice.
I am 37 and have been dealing with heavy periods for 6 years now (since my daughter was born).
She didn't mention endo, but not sure if that can be detected via ultrasound. She said she is going to look at the ovaries and if there are any troubles, she'll take those as well. The only other option was BC pills which we have avoided. I also have benign bone tumors and any additional estrogen may increase their size. One reason to try and keep the ovaries, so I don't have to take HRT.
I am so sorry for your diagnosis, but glad to see you are doing well (even if it was a longer than anticipated recovery). And you have the same attitude I have when they first found my bone tumors (prior to surgery we didn't know if they were benign or not). If it's cancer, cut it off - there are people all over the world that live life happily with less than 4 limbs everyday! I hope it's not an offensive approach to anyone else. But I had already told my husband that if cancer was detected, I would yank it all out! I am all woman and no one organ dictates it! He happily agrees.
The more pain I have each day, the more I am leaning towards the hysterectomy. My mom went in for exploratory surgery at 33 and came out with a TAH and my sister has endo, but she is 40 and I think she's gonna make it to menopause naturally.
Once again, THANKS for the info/advice and I pray that you continue to have good health!
