How old should a baby before they can go in a swimming pool? I don't mean playing in a kiddie pool but bringing them in a full size pool with you. I am wondering if I should take DS in there this year or should I wait till next year? He loves being in the tub and if DH or I go in with him we fill it up and hold him so he can be belly deep in water and he loves it.

I don't know of anything that could hurt your child in a pool, since you will be in there with him! It may be more fun for him if he can hold his head up but I don't know of any reason he can't go in.

I know my Son went in the pool at the YMCA w/ my dad when he was 6 mo to see if he was scared, he wasn't, he loved it. He went back to the Y with my Dad a couple times and My DH and I joined a pool so he could go, he is 1 now and absolutely loves he pool, he has just been in he kiddie pool at the pool we joined, but there is no reason he can't go in the big pool with an adult. Good luck.

My best friend had a baby on June 8th and has been puttin him in the pool for the past 2 weeks. Just for a couple minutes here and there nothing to major, but he loves it. Just make sure you have your baby well protected from the sun including his head/face!

We took all three of ours in the pool from the age of about two months. The chlorine can be a bit drying sometimes, but it shouldn't do any harm at all. You can use a little lotion if it dries him out. Actually chlorine can be very beneficial. It clears up yeast rashes, other fungal infections, etc. if anything like that is present.

Have fun!

My DS was 5 months old the first time I brought him in the pool and there were no problems at all... I think the biggest concern is actually the sun... Since they can't wear sunscreen before 6 mo. it can be hard to shield their sensitive skin from those strong rays!!! I think as long as the water is warm enough its fine... My little guy loves it!

I have heard 6 months before you bring them into a pool, becasue they are not able to regulate their body temperature until then.

The pool as been about 80 and up. So I think the temp is fine and I would only take him in the evening because then the pool is in the shade. Actually I went in the kiddie pool with him and he loved that. I warmed it in the sun and then moved it to shade.

I took my niece to the pool when she was 4 months old and she loved it. I just put a hat on her. When my DS was little I took him at about 8 months but that's because of where I live. Now, I'm wondering how old is too young. My DD is five weeks and loves taking baths so I'm wondering if she is too young for the pool. She has a little swimsuit but I dont' knwo about the pool. I know not to keep her in the sun too long because she is too young for protection. Maybe we should talk to our doctors lol.
