Hi. About a month ago I saw my doctor and told him that i was feeling unwell all of the time, he put this down to a pretty bad vitamin b12 defeciency.
I am taking vitamin b tablets but they arent working as well as I had hoped. I feel very dizzy, light headed and nauseas (to the point of vomiting but I don't). It is much worse at night, i feel like the room is spinning and I'm going to be sick.
Are these sorts of symptoms related to the b12 defeciency? Is there anyone else out there with the same problem? What can I do? I really just want to know for sure that it is the vitamin deficiency causing these problems not sometihng else. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I had gotten sick of the b12 vitimine too, I had black diareha, stomach ache's and a rash, I cut my dose in half and looked up on the net which foods were high in b12 and made sure there were in my daily diet or call your Doctor, see what he say's. I think when the Doctor tells us to take this vitimine to increase our Iron, it's such a strong dose all at once- our body's can't handle it, frankly I think if we started at a low dose and increased a little each week our bodies would handle it much better.

Hi Mark,

Well, first let me say that I think you should definitely get in touch with your doctor. I'm not clear, did your stomach problems start before or after you started the pill?

I, too, have a B12 deficiency, but I do NOT have pernicious anemia or low iron. You might want to find out if you have eiter of those, or a digestive disorder which can affect the absorption of B12, such as Celiac disease or Crohn's. Right now we still don't know what is causing my deficiency, though when it was first found (accidentally), I was feeling sick to my stomach all the time. I took a B12 supplement (pill) and my levels went back up. Recently, though, the supplement stopped working and I just started shots last month.

I'm interested in hearing more from you, as I have not found many people who have this same problem, unless they are vegans (I'm not). Write when you can...Hope you feel better soon...

Hello, my stomach problems started before I started taking vitamin tablets. I don't have low levels of iron or anything else, just b12. I'm not a vegan either. So do you think that my problems are definately related to the b12 problems, I'm not really sure what low levels of b12 can actually do. Thanks. Any ideas on what to do?

Do low levels of b12 cause nausea and other related symptoms? Help, please!

Hi Mark,

For me, I think it definitely caused some stomach upset. I did some research and found some symptoms of B12 deficiency:

Loss of appetite
Diarrhea
Numbness and tingling of hands and feet
Paleness
Shortness of breath
Fatigue
Weakness
Sore mouth and tongue
Confusion or change in mental status in severe or advanced cases

I would call your doctor to let him/her know how awful you're feeling, as well as to schedule an appointment to find out what is causing your deficiency -- it might be very easily remedied. Good luck and let us know what happens...

Feel better,
Inq

At this stage I don't really want to go back to the doctor unless I absolutely have to. He told me that I have to get my b12 levels back up, I am having another test in September to see if they are. I am trying some different vitamin b12 tablets to see if they help.
I don't know if this is related but I have always had swollen glands under my jaw. The doctor said they are harmless and are there for no apparent reason. Recently I have noticed a lump on the back of my head and on my neck, they feel like swollen glands. Are they related? do you think that there is some other reason for them appearing such as my acne/pimple problem (evidently glands can swell up as a result of acne) Thanks.

Ask your doctor about "B12 injections". B12 is difficult for the body to absorb from pills. I gave myself B12 injections for several years, once a week. It is a prescription.
