I called an ENT office and they told me tonsil stones were a disease. Is this true?

NO it's not true. Your tonsils are a filter of the body as all lymph glands are. The stones are gunk gathered there that has sloughed off made from mucous, food, bacteria, saliva..etc. I wouldn't call it a disease. I've never heard that...but maybe the word disease will get one in faster to get the tonsils removed?

Most people with their tonsils get them...and maybe it starts with a bout of tonsilitis (which enlarges the tonsils)..which creates larger crypts? I don't know the exact process by any means..but I do know that my ENT wasn't concerned even though I begged to get my tonsils out.

I just clean them daily...as gross as that is, at least I don't get any surprises in my mouth. YUCK. I do notice I get a few more when I have a cold tho. Like my tonsils are working in high gear. AT least they're still working! Can't complain I guess.
