View Full Version : Is Saliva meant to smell?

Hi,

I'd be grateful if anyone could help me out here.

I've noticed that my saliva smells and was wondering if this is normal.

If I lick my wrist and let it dry, it smells kinda 'tangy'. Also, if I rub the back of my tongue with my finger then rub this on my wrist it also smells.

Could anyone have a go at doing the same and let me know if this is normal? Or does it mean my breath smells?

Many Thanks.

are you brushing your tongue after brushing your teeth? if not, it's probably bacteria from your tongue, gums or fragments of food between your teeth that's causing this. also, any oral infection could also cause these symptoms.

if you're worried I recommend you visit the dentist.

Hey I've noticed this too!

My saliva smells but yet my breath doesn't stink. I meticulously brush and floss and visit my dentist regularly. The only thing I don't do often is brush my tongue. Who knows? That may be it.

I forgot to add that it wasn't always this way. I've only noticed the smell in the past year or so. I smoke and get dry mouth often.
