I have Grave's and yesterday my Gyn recommended I have a complete hysterectomy. I am concerned about my already dysfunctional hormones getting worse. Would like to hear from other women who have Grave's and have had a hysterectomy. What happened? Are you feeling better or worse?

Is your Graves Disease controlled or managed at this point? No to both. I am new to this whole message board thing. So I wasn't aware of the thyroid board. I had previously had treatment for Grave's, the last medication being for symptoms resulting from Grave's and not the Thyroid itself.

Well I have hypothyroidism, hypoparathyroidism, and hypocalcemia. I had those since my surgery in 1985 when I was 29. I was about 34 when I had my hysterectomy. They did leave my ovarys in at that time. I had no trouble at all in any way with the thyroid etc or from the hysterectomy. Just get your labwork done regularly and you will probably have no troubles. :)

My mom has graves disease-since 1983 at age 49. Had a hysterectomy in 1987(or '88)and has had no problem since...She takes premarin and I think synthroid. She has bloodwork regularly...She can usually tell on her own if she needs to have it done sooner than scheduled--she feels "off" she says and knows she needs her med adjusted. She's very happy she had it done and has had no trouble at all--she'll be 71 in Sept. Good luck to you!!

I did have problems a couple of years ago. No idea why it took such a huge drop. I thought I was feeling so cold at the time since we were having an extremely cold winter when it was acting up. The temperatures at the time were about -35F. But its a good thing that I have the regular labwork.

Hi, I am new to posting, but I had a Hysterectomy 9 years ago and I was not allowed to take hormones because of having BC. I have since had thryoid problems, it feels like it is growing, at first (9 yrs ago) they said it was scar tissue, but now it is starting to cause problems with feeling like their is a lump in my throat when I lay down and it feels larger. Please can someone help me. Thanks:confused:
