For a while I've dealt with this problem but it has been just recently that I've been doing it consistently. I've been huffing/Inhaling lighter fluid from lighters that I have laying around. It gives me a minor high, makes me feel weird, and then eventually allows me to sleep. I've noticed myself lately to have pains out of no where the day after, and was wondering if it was related.

I just want to know what kind of risks are involved in what I'm doing, how serious is it, what could happen.

I'm actually very scared that I may be hurting myself more than I believe, and Do wish to discontinue, but have found myself literally "craving" either the smell of the fluid or something.

So if you know of anything I asked please let me know, also if you know of where I can turn to get help if it is serious I'd appreciate that. I live in a horribly small town and not alot is open and Available to me here in the community so as far as places to turn that are online or something is what i'm looking for.

Thank You.

Hi MyDsembur, welcome to the board!

It is good you are reaching out for help, that is the first very important step. Inhaling/huffing is extremely serious. From what I understand, it can cause brain damage and even death. It can happen at any time, not only after prolonged exposure. It can also damage your heart, liver and lungs.

You need to speak to someone about this immediately so you can get the help you need to stop. Contact a doctor, psychologist, counselor, pastor, or if you are a teenager, your parents or another adult you can trust.

You are not alone in dealing with this. Good help is available. Please reach out for it immediately.

Let us know how you are doing okay?

Not only is it extremely dangerous, it's illegal. At 12 years of age, my nephew was caught huffing gasoline and was charged with a felony. Evidently, the misuse of products for the purpose of huffing is considered a controlled substance in some states.

The high that you are experiencing from huffing is caused from lack of oxygen to the brain. This high can cause death without warning.

I know you say you're from a small town, but here is a link to a website where you can find the nearest treatment counselor. It is from the US Dept. of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration
