Saw my doctor the other day and asked her if I could shift to Topamax. The neurotin 1200mg taken at bedtime is helping me to sleep and I don't take it during the day because of the dozy and dizzy side effects. Previously to that I was only taking 400mg 3xday and it did nothing. For me the biggest draw back with the Neurotin is the weight gain. Topamax on the other hand can actually help you lose weight.
Well my doctor told me that in her practice Neurotin seems to work the best for nerve pain relief and she didn't want me to switch. She was definately not very high on Topamax. When I mentioned the weight gain she said forget the weight gain what you need is some good pain relief and Neurotin is the best drug.
I really like and trust her as she always has her patient's best interest at heart and the Neurotin seems to be the only thing that is remotely working.

Hi. I've tried both and get the same relief for nerve pain from topamax that i did from neurontin without the weight gain. I figured the weight loss s/e I've had from the topamax - although not everyone experiences it and I've only lost about 20 lbs - is a plus for me for my back.
