I have a question.

I have an 11 day old son whose umbilical cord stump fell off three days ago. It had been clean and normal looking for the past two days. Today, I noticed that there was some dried blood in his navel. Is this normal? I cleaned it out with warm water and soap and it seemed ok. He also doesn't seemed bothered by it.

Any ideas?

My DS had the same thing. His stump was bleeding a little and then fell of. It was oozing a little, then scabbed over, and then that little bit fell off the same way the belly button did. But it did continue to bleed and ooze a little. It made me a nervous wreck but now it is normal looking. He also had a bad habit of grabbing it while he was being dressed.

My guy doesn't grab that, just something else in the general vicinity! Good thing we didn't get him circumcised! Ouch!

Mine grabs that too!! And he had his circumised, funny thing is, he never cried or gave any indication that it hurt when he did it. I think boys will be boys.
