I just can't get rid of this. I posted about this a couple months ago and started taking vancocin HCI and today I finished it all. The doctor thought it was gone and it is NOT. Only good thing is I don't gain any weight and eat like a piggy. But this is terrible! Anyone know if this can do any damage to me having it for so long?
I don't want to appear gross but I read that a stool is suppose to have some bulk in it. Mine is like a rope and I go each and every time I eat. And then some. I am tired and worried because my fiance' is going to have double knee replacement next month and no doubt he will be on anitbiotics. If I don't get rid of it, he could get it from me! Any suggestions. Seems my GP can't get this solved.

Buy the dietary supplement s. boulardii. Take 6 caps a day for a month. That should clear it up.

Hi Babesbarn,
I too have C-diff (Clostridium difficile) and have completed four regimes of Vancocin, 250 mg QID for 14 days, without getting rid of this problem. I wouldn't mess around with any dietary supplements, but I would reccomend you get yourself a good Gastro doc to treat you.

We are currently waiting for test results to come back on my wife to make sure she doesn't have any infections and assuming she doesn't, she will be the donor for me in a proceedure which uses donated stool. You go in for a colonoscopy and then the doctor does a complete bowel flush. After completing this he injects the donated stool uniformily every 10 cm throughout the colon. The idea behind this proceedure is the donated good bacteria will take over and the bad bacteria which is causing the C-diff will be gone and the patient will not have any more of the symptoms. This proceedure is common in Europe and Canada, but fairly new to the United States.

This is the last thing to try for me. I have been bothered with this for at least two years and it went undiagnoised for all that time until just recently. Hopefully this will work and rid me of the problem. I also have IBS, but that is nothing compared to C-diff. I hope you will check with and go see a good Gastrointrologist who is up on this proceedure. It could make all the difference in your life.

Or you could just eat yogurt with active bacterial culture. It contains the normal healthy bacteria found in the bowel and restores the bowel to it's normal healthy state. 2 small containers twice a day. We use that in the hospital where I work. I'm a nurse

Eating the yogurt is fine as a preventive measure since 30-40% of patients on antibiotics (usually from the cillin family) in a hospital setting come down with C-diff, but once you have colitis you're past that point of just eating yogurt. I wish it were that easy. I have the Clostridium difficile colitis with A and B toxins and it is not easy to clear up. As I mentioned earlier, I have been on oral Vancomycin, 250 mg for well over a month now without any good results. When I went off it after the first 14 day course, the diarrhea returned within 48 hours. I am convinced if you don't respond to the antibiotic therapy, then the proceedure of stool infusion is probably the only recourse left.

I've just started on my 2nd round of Flagyl for c.difficile. I thought the first round did away with the problem, but nooooo - within a week or so c. difficile returned and it is one miserable problem.

And it's accompanied by another miserable problem that must be quite common to anyone taking Flagyl - namely candida - yeast. That's been with me for several weeks in a sensitive and embarrasing spot.

I know that oral Diflucan is one treatment for thrush but don't know if it's called for here. I've been using OTC Myconozal with indifferent success. Question: Has anyone here run into a bad case of thrush when taking Flagyl or other antibiotic? And if so, how did you handle it?

Again, I suggest the s. boulardii. Will take care of yeasts or c. diff. My dd has a damaged gut from her vaccines given as a baby. We've used this successfully on 3 occasions. Be aggressive, tho--at least 6 caps a day.
