18 days is brilliant, well done. When I first quit, I ate a lot more than normal and also increased my physical activity, I did anything rather than smoke a cigarette. My weight did increase, very slightly and I found it difficult to be happy about the increase but decided that I'd rather put on a few pounds than go back to smoking. I'm just over 3 months quit now and in the last few weeks I find that I turn to food less and less.
I also found that drinking a lot of water and chewing sugarfree gum helps alot.
Good luck with your quit you're doing great.

GREAT!!! GOOD FOR YOU BOTH AND YOU HAVE A LOT TO BE PROUD OF!!! :bouncing: :bouncing: :bouncing:
Not everyone but most people do gain a bit of weight in the beginning. Some it’s from eating and some it’s metabolism or both. Pageaday has the right attitude! :D It is better to put on a few pounds now then continue eating that poison. It will all come back off in time. Don’t allow that demon to let you to think of a negative excuse for going back. :nono: You are almost over the hump and you don’t want to fall back down again.
Good luck and keep us informed of your progress!
Sincerely
John

Thanks for the replies. ;) ever since i quit i have been letting myself get "addicted" to doing other stuff in place of smoking. like I was eating something instead of smoking, drinking unhealthy amounts of red bull or coffee, whatever could replace my smoking addiction, which it did but all the caffiene and chocolate started making me sick to my stomach and i have gained a few pounds, so i have been cutting back and i am starting to feel really good, i am so glad i made the descion to quit smoking it was the best desicion i have ever made.

mcds03--
Congratulations--and you are right...it IS the best desision you ever made! :) Don't worry about a little weight, you'll be able to lose it later! I quit 22 months ago, and I did gain about 13 lbs, (also was dealing with hypothyroid problem at the same time though), but I've now lost 8 of those lbs. I used that excuse toooo many times before, and always ended up back on the cigs! Then hated myself for it!! What good is a perfect figure, if we have cancer, or some other horrible disease caused by smoking??
Good job girlfriend...keep it going! :)

i quit six days ago...and i've gained two pounds...but I don't think it will keep coming...learning how to run up and down the stairs at work when i'd normally be taking a smoke break...and hop on the treadmill at home when i'd normally be going outside...also, i've found that without the nicotine, i feel "cleaner"...so I'm not wanting to put a bunch of processed stuff in my body. anyone else notice that? But you sound very active- have you noticed you're hungry for anything in particular? Cravings? Or are you just eating more?

Hey Congratulations,
Quitting smoking is very hard and they say it's more addicting the heroin. What I did when I quit smoking 4 years ago is after one week I told myself I made it this far lets see what’s happens in three days. So I kept setting these goals that helped. Also what helped me was getting a straw and cutting it in half and act like I was smoking by sucking into the straw. Chewing cinnamon gum helps and wearing a patch for a week or to then going cold turkey. If you can go one week without smoking then you can go the rest of the way without a patch. As for the weight gain, it's normal but you will noticed your energy level goes up and you will be able to run faster on that treadmill of yours because you don’t have all the nicotine in you lungs. You skin gets better, you don’t smell like an astray anymore and your teeth will get brighter.
Also remember an urge only last 1-2 minutes
