I have had 5 colonoscopys, in the last year and half. The drug is fine. You won't feel anything and you will not care. you will be fine. Just make sure that you are cleaned out. Good luck lizard50

That's what I had for both colonoscopies--had no problems whatsoever with it.

Didn't remember a thing which is what you want.

Chester4, do you have a history of drug reactions????? I have read some of your other posts and you need to seriously find a way to chill. Does your doctor know how freaked out you are about this test? I thought for sure your husband's easy time would help you relax a bit. Every thing in life has risk attached. I have never heard of anyone being seriously harmed by a colonoscopy. However, I have read and heard many stories about people whose lives could have been saved by a colonoscopy. You are so lucky to have lived this long and never had any health problems that would have required diagnostic tests before now. That alone should give you reason to expect a good outcome, not think the worst. Perhaps after your colonoscopy you should get an appt with your regular doctor and discuss your anxiety issues, that could end up being a more serious problem for you than whats going on in your colon. I certainly wish you the best, and hope you can stop worrying about every little detail of the procedure. If you have chosen a competent GI, then you have nothing to worry about. Be sure to post about the outcome, I am betting afterwards you will be kicking yourself for spending so much time worrying. Good Luck!

Teasugar, You are right on I am freaked out but this is not like me. I am always anxious lately can't sleep, have night sweats, cry for nothing and panic attacks. I have been hoping they would go away so I didn't tell anyone until today! I told you guys on the boards and my best friend I am going to tell my husband tonight and call my Dr. in the morning. I think it may be an increase in menopausal symptoms but at times it just feels like I am loosing my mind. I have a stressful job and holld it together at work but barely make it to my car! I have posted on the board for menopause as well. I am going to cancel this appointment until I see my Dr. as I have high blood pressure and I know it is not controlled right now! I hope she can help with some medication that will help me relax. She gave me ambien which should put a horse to sleep and I can only sleep 3 hours! I feel foolish canceling but I can't have anything done in the state I am in! I cried all the way to the Vet's tonight to pick up my cat for no reason! It is irrational! At times I have good periods but these moods change so suddenly!

chester4,

Unless one has experienced panic attacks or has a close loved one who has had panic attacks, one cannot possibly imagine how devastating they are. You might want to ask your doc for a few Xanax to help get you through for a couple of days until you have your colonoscopy....then make an appointment to get meds for the panic attacks. Zoloft which is an antidepressant is also good for panic attacks but, as with any anti-depressant, it takes a while for it to kick in. A prescription for Xanax for the panic attacks until the Zoloft kicks in is a good combination. Good luck...I hope you can get the colonoscopy over with this week, but I for one, completely understand if you can't.

chester4,

One more thing in regard to your original question about versed....it's some goooood stuff...you'll be completely relaxed and get a fantastic night's sleep after your colonoscopy (which might make it worth getting the colonoscopy done). :)

CDauthier- Thanks for understanding I know it is difficult for those who have never experience this to conceive of how debilitating they are. I am not going to try the scope this week but have an appointment this week with my pcp. I have written down all my symptoms and hope I can get something to help me. When my moods are more stable I know I can deal with the test on a rational level. my biggest fear was that I would try and freak out! Nothing more pathetic than a middle aged woman in the midst of a panic attack!!

You have to do what's best for you! I know panic attacks all too well!! They are horrible to say the least. I suffered for years with them. I only get them rarely now but I do suffer from general anxiety.

I wish you well and keep us posted!

Chester4, I do hope you can get some peace of mind. I have the perimenopause issues as well as intestinal problems so I do understand having multiple issues. Cathy is right about the Versed, the best I have felt for a long while is the day I had my last colonoscopy, I was so happy, and not an ache or pain on my entire body for the rest of the day, and I slept like a rock that night. Good luck getting your issues sorted out. You are right to get some help with your anxiety, and do believe "this too shall pass". Tea

Thanks to all for understanding. It makes me feel not quite as big a fool. I feel like my emotions are controlling my life and it is awful. I will post again after my appointment Thursday. You guys are the only ones I can tell this stuff to so I appreciate soo much all your support!

Hi to all. Post says Cartman4, aka Chester 4, Sorry I have not posted for awhile but have ben having a tough time. The Dr. put me on Paxil to help with my anxiety and I see her again on 9/1. Things are a bit better this week and I hope to soon be able to get the scope done, I am also getting some help on the menapause boards. I did want to thank everyone who took the time to post and support me! Thanks again

Versed was used on me for oral surgery (extraction of 4 teeth) which took 50 minutes. I remember talking to doctor and then I was totally o-u-t. I was VERY fearful of "going under" because I am a smoker, but too afraid to have this particular surgery done under local.

VERSED was great and all you have to do is relax and trust the doc and nurses. They are familiar and trained for worst case scenarios anyhow. They said I had been a "model patient."

You will be FINE and if there is a problem they will handle it. My brother is having this test this week also. Panic attacks are horrible and I try to isolate too much because I can't seem to handle the simple, happier things in life. I have had so much stress that that is sadly becoming the state that I am most familiar with and am more comfortable in! I am great in a crisis and struggle with codependence.

Peace to us all.

singsong, thanks for the info and encouragement. It is nice to hear that someone understands how bad anxiety and panic can be. Some have said that I am being a cry baby and should just grow up and do what I need to but as you know it is not that easy. keep in touch Thanks again
