Hi..i'm not sure what's going on with me but something is not right. I first noticed that i was much gassier then usual..this happened often..i'm bloated almost all the time..worse after i eat..now i'm constipated all the time..and even if i have had a bm i still feel like i have to go and the bloating stays. At first i ignored these things but now it's all the time and all together and i'm uncomfortable all the time. Also there is some pain in lower abdomon..and lower right side..but usually passes with the gas. I have found lots of products for indigestion and whatnot..but i don't need that..what works for the other gass and constipation? Any recomendations? Also what would be causing this? Started gradually about two months back?

Krissy,
Sometimes the balance of your intestine can not be right for many reasons from a round of antibiotics, too much salt or sugar, alcohol, too spicey food or just some food that you may be intolerant to--

THe major foods that cause problems is dairy products, and wheat.

If your intestinal bacteria is out of balance -- you can eat yogurt or drink kefir and take a probiotic supplement twice daily on an empty stomach . This may help re-establish the friendly intestinal flora and help the bloating??

Thanks Harry..i do eat a lot of wheat..so maybe that's it. The other thing i was wondering about today is aspartame..and if it can cause these problems..it is the only thing that is relatively new in my diet...i use a sweetner in my coffee and drink diet soda. Anyone know anything about this?

ok..sorry if i'm taking up everyones time here with this if it's just nothing but..if anyone could help that would be great..i took a laxative last night..nothing..took a laxative today...nothing..the pharmasist recomended a sapository or enima..but i'm not ready to go there yet. How long before a laxative works? It says 6 to 12 hrs..but there's nothing happening..i'm very bloated and getting uncomfortable..this has been way way way too long. I hate to go see a doctor and find out i'm just constipated..i'd feel so silly..but how long is too long to stay this way?

If you do not have a BM at least every 3 days -- you are considered ---Constipated

I suggest you use the enema or suppository!!

Sounds exactly Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I have the same thing. Dr. will usually diagnose after an endoscopy/colonscopy to rule out any other problems. I'm miserably bloated all the time - especially around the time of my period. Also, I'm constipated most of the time. You will get wonderful, immediate relief from a suppository or enema.

Thanks for the replies..wow is this frustrating. I have had only two bm in i don't know how long...and both with the assistance of a laxitive..taking up to 24 hours or longer to work. I have constant gas..driving me crazy and i'm sure those around me.The only time i feel normal is for a few hours after the bm..the the bloating starts all over again. I'm making an appointment with my doc..but that will take up to a month before i can see him. I'm worried about not being able to have a normal bm..because i have heard that your body can become dependant on laxatives or enimas or whatever and not function the same..don't want that either. Anyway thanks to everyone who posted.

I have been like this for 5 weeks since I had my surgery. It is driving me nuts! No relief with stool softeners... enemas don't work cause I can't hold them long enough. So I finally took a stool softener with added laxative. That worked but woke me in the middle of the night with painful cramps.
A liquid stool softener worked but only for a small amount.
I have a lot of gas which I am burbing constantly and a nauseus feeling most of the time. I've told the doctors and they have no solutions either other than stool softeners and laxatives also enemas. 5 weeks is a LONG time to go with only a small amount of relief here and there. The odd thing is that I don't even have the urge to go!
Anyone have any ideas? I can't seem to hold the enema more than a minute and it's not enough.
