Ok, all I want to know if this is a normal thing to be able to feel. Don't try to diagnose it or anything, just if this is normal.
I am able to feel the end of my colon coming through my anus. It isn't major, but I can still feel it. Now, is that normal? Should I be able to feel my colon without sticking my finger in my anus? Is it normal to feel your colon in your normal state between your "inner cheeks"? Or should you only feel skin, and no colon, if your not going to the bathroom?

Hmmm...if the area is inflamed by whatever, you would feel it. Maybe you're just feeling the anus...which does have nerve endings and is inside the body as well. I can feel it sometimes after I have a bm...or if I haven't completed a bm.
If I really focus as I'm walking, I can feel it...but I'm kind of focussed on that area anyway since I have UC, hemorrhoid and fissure.
I think I'm normal... :D (well, fairly normal).
Is this what you might mean?

I mean should one be able to feel it with there fingers, without going inside the body. Meaning, if you just rubbed the inside of your anus with your finger, should you only feel skin, or should one be able to feel there colon? Colon being part of the intestines, or feel something similar to it?
Also, if one squats down, should one be able to feel the colon or end part of the intestines sticking out, or should one only feel skin, or at least not be able to feel the colon protruding out?

It's probably the anus you see/feel. It's gathered together, so to say, and with a finger it would feel smooth but maybe a bit bumpy considering the "puckers". As well, internal hemorrhoids are formed at the anus (inside the anus), and that's what you might be feeling.
As you squat, the anus would stretch a bit and kind of unfold and you would see a bit of that, especially if it's inflamed a bit, as well, you would see a hemorrhoid protrude a bit.
You should only feel skin or the most outermost part of the anus when it's folded inward and tightest...you would start to see and feel the inside of the anus if pressure is put on it from inward (pushing) and it's forced a bit outward.
There is a disorder called prolapsed rectum where the rectum has fallen into the anal canal and is pushed out during a bm or possibly when squating. I know you didn't want diagnosis...but that is a possiblity as well.
Does this help?

Yes, I have always thought it was a minimal amount of anal prolapse. But doctors can't see it if I simply bend over a table to get checked, because my "crack" and butt is kind of hairy, and any prolapse would be hidden.
What I feel when I am in my normal state is still my rectum, or anus, whatever it is called. You state I shouldn't feel anything. I do feel it, so that isn't normal is it?
I am going back to the gastrologist some time. He did the camera test to check up my intestines, and found nothing, just as I expected. My problem isn't in my instestine, it is in the area where the large intestine ends, where the sphincter, anus, and rectum is. He didn't really check that at all. This is insane to get this problem fixed. He basically told me after the test to take metamusal pills, just because, and gave me picture, and said I was a great pacient, while never addressing what to do for my problem. He did take some sample, cut away from my intestine, to check for it, and also asked for a poop sample, not about my problem, but to check for something in my stomach. I told him I took nexium for a very minor case of acid reflux disease, and now he wants to check for bugs. Don't check for bugs, FIX MY PROBLEM is what I'm thinking.
Anyways, here is a list of my symptoms, and will give a list to the doctor to fix, and each I will make sure are addressed:
-A feeling of rectal prolapse.
-Leakage occuring, passive, no control over it. Leakage consists of some liquid that smells like feces.
-Problem holding back gas, I link to also problem with this passive leakage. Beano has fixed the gas problem though.
There is always a solution to a problem, and he will address all of these problems, and fix them, I will make sure he doesn't blow me off.
Anyways, if you see anything, or would like to comment on my symptoms, please do, please give me some information on this situation.

-Also, another point I'm going to bring up that I didn't bring up, is that I have about 3 to 4 bowel movements a day. There are more days that I have 4 bowel Movements then not though. Sometimes 5 bowel movements. I do eat about 5 meals a day though, so that may explain it.

I think, and don't take this the wrong way, that you have become fixated on a problem that likely doesn't even exist. You are stressing out so much, that that likely accounts for your "digestive upsets," "leakage," etc.
I would suggest you simply eat a good diet, sit on toilet when nature calls, wipe using some of those moist towlettes and flush the toilet without looking back. Get your mind involved with other pursuits for a month or so and see if things don't improve.
Best of luck.

This problem does actually exist. I have tried ignoring the problem for 2-3 years, and that hasn't done anything. The leakage is real, I have felt it, seen it, and have smelled it, it is there. Tell me, is it normal for someone to have a poo smelling liquid hanging around in there "crack", and it leaking out passively? It isn't because I don't go to the bathroom either, I go more than most.

hi...back problems or nerve impingement would have an effect on the bowel controls if that specific nerve in the spine would be affected.
I know when my back is severely bothering me, my bms are more difficult (painful in the back) to hold and even push while having a bm. The sphincter muscle is contracted by using other muscles as well, and the combination if contracting or pushing presses on the nerves that are impinged.
If you've already seen a gastro, maybe your next step could be to see a colo-rectal surgeon?
Next question....have you been checked out for an infection..swabs taken?

I am going back to see this gastrologist. He told me to take metamusil pills, and when my mom called the doctor to ask what I should do, because he didn't after the first visit, he or an assisstant said that is what they give to people with leakage problems. It absorbs stuff and such.
But, what I don't get from this guy, is that he did the finger check before the camera thing, and found nothing. I swear that I am feeling my colon sticking out, it's not a lot, but I am feeling it. It's like the doctor is taking me as a joke, since I'm not a 50+ year old, and shouldn't be having these problems.
Also, what does the colo-rectal surgeon doctor do, and how could I see him? I would probably need a referal to go.

Yes, you'd need a referral to the colorectal surgeon. What he/she would be able to tell you is if there's anything out of place.
As far as what you're feeling...I think you're just feeling the very inner part of your anus. Lots of feelings in that area.
Get referred to at least one other doctor...continue to eat foods that will help bulk up your stool.
I would also strongly suggest you start taking a good probiotic. It will help keep the flora balanced and maybe help with the leakage.
Do you also have a problem with constipation? Have you been diagnosed with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)?
Next question....have you looked at the area yourself? squat over a hand-held mirror....you should visually see if there's something awry there.

I take metamucil capsules once every day as the gastrologist told me to do if that is what you mean.

Actually about the opposite. I have about 4 bowel movements a day. I haven't been diagnosed with IBS yet.
Next question....have you looked at the area yourself? squat over a hand-held mirror....you should visually see if there's something awry there.
Yes, I have looked at it with a camera, digital camera. When I squat down and look back there, I am able to see what looks to be my colon. It is semi faded red, but that could also just be the camera. But I do see my colon, or the ending of my colon coming out. I can also feel it with my hand when I'm squating down very clearly. It looks folded, and semi-round, not perfect round, like a egg shape round. But, should I be able to see something like that?
Also, some extra information, I havn't really had the leakage occur much over the summer, but it has sort of happened maybe a few times, but hardly ever this summer. But, I had a big problem with this during school, and want to fix it so it can't begin again, if it does or not.

Hi....probiotics are actually bacteria..good bacteria that will help keep the digestive tract in good working order and healthy. Take that in conjunction with the metamucil (which bulks up the stool and helps clean out the digestive tract). I use Natural Factors Protec probiotic...it dissolves in the small intestine and I take 3 at night before bedtime on an empty stomach.
When you go to the gastro doc or surgeon, get him to look at it when you are in the position with your legs curled up when on your side.
If you had a problem with all this during school, it seems that stress is a factor (leakage)....meaning I think that it could be IBS.
What if you tried hydrocortisone cream and apply it to the anus for a few days...not inside, just externally a few times a day and see if the area is less inflamed and if the feeling you have is less intense.
Just a few more thoughts.

It kind of feels folded, but smooth in other areas. Anyways, I can feel enough of it for it to concern me.
I have seen a gastrologist, and he did the finger test, and said everything is fine. He also glanced at my butt when I was laying on my side and legs up to my chest. He did that before doing that camera on a wire test. He saw nothing, but neither could I, because my "crack" area is pretty hairy. You can only really see it if I am squating down.
When I did take a picture of it when I was squating down, I saw folded pale red stuff, is that what you were talking about about the anus being flolded up? If not, then what could this be?
Anyways, I have a appointment scheduled for next week to see this doctor again.

I just took a digital picture and looked at it. There looks like a straight line for the middle of the anus for the "hole", except where the folds are, down the middle. On the outside, I see six round things. Doesn't look like skin though. The color of the folds are pale pinkish color. I would send you a picture of it, being your a nurse and I really don't care, I want this problem solved, but doubt you could or would like to look at such a picture. Does that sound normal?

The definitive test for rectal prolapse, the condition for which you are seeking a definitive answer about, is a defogram. Artificial stool is pumped into you and then you are viewed on a fluoroscope while defecating it out. Any stray bits of innards will clearly show on that. However, if prounounced, such a test will not be needed.
I agree-take the photos with you.

After reading all your posts, I can say with 99.99% certainty that you have a prolapsed rectum. (I have it, and speak from experience; been there done that in trying to figure out what it is and what to do about it although I dont have any leakage). It pokes out of your butt because somewhere up the line, some of your large intestine has detached from a place where it was once attached; that is to say, it has no home and can now reach to the outer limits of your butt. Nice, hunh? Now, what do you do about it? First, it is not an "urgent" matter, as a few well-meaning posters have suggested. Especially since you have been feeling it for years. You generally get it from straining too hard at some point in the past, but it can result from other reasons, none of which you could have really known in advance to avoid. To fix it without surgery, all you can do is STOP PUSHING deliberately past your sphincter when you use the toilet. And I agree with the poster who said to stop dwelling on it. Let your BMs come out at their own pace. Don't use force (also, don't sit on the toilet too long - get on and get off if it ain't happening within a minute or two -sitting there will work against you in trying to untrain your prolpased item). Your prolapse will not go back to being completely un-prolapsed, but you can at least stop consciously making it stick out. There is a surgical alternative, where you would sew your intestine back to the wall from which it fell. I have read that this is a very sensitive and hard-to-recover type of surgery, and has a high failure rate. There isn't really a long-term risk of having the prolapse, other than it is not very pretty and feels weird as heck when it pops out.
I don't know about your leakage. Seems like the doc should be able to diagnose, and I would agree that a fiber source should soak up excess fluid. Not to be gross, but count your blessings you are not constipated. That is a double whammy when you have prolapse because the urge to push is always on your mind... :)
And finally, get a different doctor??? The one I went to pretty much had his nose in my butt, which is really awkward, but that is exactly where he needed to be to tell me what was going on.

This is important to me. I really link this to my leakage, and need to know for a fact this isn't normal, so the doctor can't blow it off like "oh, not many people have it, but it's not a big deal" kind of thing. From me you will get a definitive "no", neither the prlapse nor the leakage is normal You shouldn't be able to see what you see. But you need to hear it from a doctor. No one on this board can know for sure. It is clear that a doctor's acknowledgement is the only thing that will give you some peace, but I think you have gotten hung up on one doctor's behavior/response. If he is not "hearing" you, or he gives you the sense that your needs are not important, find another!! No one should blow off your concerns, especially your leakage, as it is causing your daily life to be stressful.
Good luck.

Again, you would notice, if you read the thread, that I have asked different questions, not just one repeatedly, unless I didn't get an answer to it. Can't know if I don't ask. And I know you didn't read the thread from the fact that you don't know I am seeing a gastrologist.
Its nice to look at a threads length, and assume stuff. If you read into my posts, you see that I have seen a doctor, and am seeing him again on Wed. A gastrologists. If you also read into it more, you will see why I am concerned, considering he didn't notice it.

I see what happens, and hope he says it is prolapse and doesn't blow it off, because I think it is and would like to get it fixed.

I have this problem too. Have you found a solution?

rick, read my earlier post. You have 2 options I believe - deal with it, or have your colon sewn back in. Dealing means not straining, not sitting on the pot for long stretsches, keeping clean, eating properly so your poo is soft and regular.
You know, you can do internet research to help you understand. Just query anal prolapse.

Queeneev, one more question before I go in Wed.
This prolapse looks nothing like the ones you can see on google Image search. It doesn't stick out close to that amount. It's just the fact that I can see the colon that worries me. I also am confident that it is linked to this leakage thing. Its like I can see 6 little round things towards the outside of the wall of the "hole" and a line down the middle, the "hole". Its minor, but I feel it is minor prolapse. It is, however, causing major reprocusions in my life. You would still qualify that as prolapse that could be sewn back up?

...hahaha you should say "warning don't go to this link if you're eating anything...". Yucko photos. But I agree with you, what I see is more like the drawing you ID'd, only less protruded. Mine has stayed about the same for 6 years now and doesn't bother me, so I don't intend to do anything about it.
At least you have some ammunition now!

Queeneev, so you have basically the same issue I am talking about, minus the leakage part?

Is this about your thing, if the answer above is yes, or about what you have heard me talk about?

it was about my thing. Yes, I have the same issue minus the leakage. It began when I had a really bad flu 6 years ago, with stuff coming out both ends. I had been sitting on the toilet off and on all day (when I wasn't lying in misery on the floor), and I felt the urge to push more than ever before, and suddenly there was that tissue popping out. I didn't know it was my innards at that time, I thought it was clingy poo so I pushed REALLY hard. Finally I reached down and touched it and realized it was "me", looked at it with a mirror, pushed it back in, and then debated whether I was dying or not (I thought I might have had some Stephen King deadly virus, I was in a nightmare, and my guts were making their way out of my body like an alien). Later I went to the net and researched what it could be, and when I concluded it was prolapse, I was okay with it. It has been there ever since, only it doesn't pop out unless I push somewhat. I try always to not push and don't think about it beyond that.

But, see, mine doesn't push in, or pop out, it just stays the same. It is hanging out though.
I can remember when I was a kid, before a soccer game, I would always go to the bathroom. Well, one day, I was in a rush, and I was straining hard, even hitting my stomach, and can remember feeling a rip. It hurt for a sec, but I was back to normal. I never really thought about it again.
Then 8th grade, I started noticing it, mainly because of the leakage. I did start eating more, and doing more stuff, and noticed the leakage. Then, I would wash back there, and felt it, but didn't really think too much of it. Then, as this leakage thing happened, I thought I just needed to go to the bathroom more. It's now coming up to 12 grade, and I have done everything to deal with this, and now believe it is this prolapse. But should I be able to push it back in if it is prolapse? It doesn't really move. It just stays like that most all the time. Sometimes a little more noticiable than others, but no major change. You STILL think it is this type of prolapse I am speaking of?

honestly, I do not know. Mine stays up behind my sphincter unless I actively push.

This gets really annoying. I will ask the doctor directly if it is normal, because I really don't think it is. I will also bring in that diagram. But, in reality, something is wrong, just no one will tell me what it is.

I don't know, my boyfriend was going through something like that, he thought he could feel it stick out while he was having a BM, but it never stuck out just normally. I think you should have that checked out by a doctor. Have you tried looking to see if it's really sticking out or just feeling like it?

I have looked at it, and could see it with a picture I took. It was like six round things lined up next to each other, kind of. They were pale pinkish, not real pink, but could see pink on the bottom ones. I can feel it.
Anyways, I went to the gastrologist, and he recomended that I keep taking the metamucil tablets. I also went into for another thing he found, but this one, he said I should take metamucil tablets. When school starts back up, and I have the problem, I will go in again, in a month. I will probably just go in to get this fixed, but didn't bring it up this time. If this fiber fixes the problem, I might be less likely to go in. If it doesn't, I will be very forward on this to get it fixed. I will just wait until school starts back up, so I can say that they fiber doesn't stop the leakage, and that I can feel something sticking out.
