I remember when I got my first rhino, when they were putting me under (I had to breath into that mask thing), my body went completely limp, but my mind was fully functioning. No matter what I tried, I couldn't move a limb, but my brain was awake and I started panicing "oh no, I'm gonna be awake during the surgery and not be able to let anyone know cause I can't move". It seriously scared me to death, but it only lasted about 30 seconds. Than I awoke and it was over with.
This didn't happen to anyone else I talked to. Has anyone had this happen? I'm about to undergo a 2nd one and I'm a little nervous about that happening again.

Yes, this happened to me. I had my veins stripped 10 years ago. As soon as they put the anesthisia in, I suddenly was paralyzed and coudn't breath. That's all I remember. Since then, I have not been under. I met the chief anestisioligist (sorry I can't spell!) at Stanford at a social event. He told me that that when you go under, they give you a paralyzing agent (they don't want you bouncing around on the table :bouncing: ) This also causes the breathing to slow down. This is why you have a breathing tube put down your throat.

oh god now im scared ___________!!!! She said she felt numb and then felt like shew as waking up, that is so scary. This makes me think something bad will happen when I go under, I'm such a hypochondriac so it's not good to have these thoughts.

Ngfan, try not to worry. This is not common. I'm getting mine in 2 weeks, so I'll let u know what happens. I think i'll be fine. Tell your surgeon your concerns. When I had my 1st one, I felt awake and paralyzed for the first 30 seconds they put the mask on me. Next thing I knew, I was awake and it was over. No worries.

I'm getting mine done feb/mar of next year I hope. I'm gonna tell them what my fears are. I'm scared of the IV haha, and going under. Otherwise, I think I'll be fine recovering. I will be saying a prayer for you and look forward to hearing how it went. The best of luck.

Ok been a lil bit since then but heres how i remember how it happened....

I went in my last surgery (3rd) they shot that good stuff in my viens to go to lala land whatever they call it now a days lol. Anyways, during the surgery i remember like seeing bright bright lights and the doctor was using this device with my nose but it felt really numb so i couldnt feel it a whole lot:rolleyes: . It was very Hazy what i saw but i saw this metal device shoved up my nose. (BTW this only lasted 10secs or so)

Anyways, i thought it was all a dream until i asked him if he used a (thing i described above ^^) on me and he said "Yes i used a contracter(sp prob wrong but somethin like that i believe) to get something up my nose" So it wasnt a dream after all.
